Richard Podhajsky Obituary

Richard V. Podhajsky, 87, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Vinton, with Father Jim Brokman as Celebrant. Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at the church on Thursday. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.

Richard was born November 14, 1936, in Toledo, IA, the son of Lewis G. and Emma (Buresh) Podhajsky, Sr. He attended school in Marshalltown, graduating from St. Mary Catholic High School. Richard proudly served in the United States Army from 1959-1961. He was employed as a mechanic for Hanson Farmers Sales and Service and self-employed as a farmer.

When Richard wasn't busy farming and tending to his animals, he enjoyed word search puzzles and watching TV. He loved his dogs, and spending time with his siblings, nieces and nephews.

Richard is survived by his sisters: Marcella Turnis and Barb Goebel; sister-in-law, Edith Podhajsky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Louis, Harry and Lester Podhajsky; two nephews: David and Gary Goebel; and two brothers-in-law: Arnold Turnis and Jim Goebel.

A memorial fund has been established.
