Connie Trice Obituary

The sun set in Connie Adelle Johnson Trice's physical life on Saturday morning, June 25, 2016. She was 59 and lived in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Connie was born on February 2, 1957, to the late Arthur Odell and Florence Beatrice Williams Johnson. She was affectionately known and loved as, "Ms. Connie," "Grandma Connie" "Momma Trice," "Chocolate Drop," "Ky-nie," "Cupcake," and simply, "Mom."
Connie faithfully served as a nurse for over 30 years at the University of Virginia Medical Center, the Hospice of the Piedmont and Interim Healthcare. Connie was renowned for her bedside manner and the empathy with which she cared for her patients and their families. Connie also spent a number of years serving the community through her work at Abundant Life, AmeriCorps and as a community outreach healthcare provider.
If there was one word to describe Connie, it would be "selfless." Connie exemplified the word in her willingness to give of her time, resources and love to anyone in need, even through the times when she had very little of her own.
Connie's door swung on open hinges for those in need of a warm bed, shoulder to cry on, food to eat, or a listening ear.
Connie was an avid game-show watcher staying up into the wee hours of the morning to watch Family Feud, Deal or No Deal and Who Wants to be a Millionaire; and, she was the reliable creator of games for every family get together. She also enjoyed Sudoku and crossword puzzles because she said they kept her "sharp."
Connie was an avid journalist, whether she was pinning the next great novel, a letter to her daughter, or simply jotting down tidbits from a sermon she wanted to make sure she wouldn't forget. She could always be found with a pen in hand.
In her afterlife, Connie joins her parents, Arthur and Florence Johnson; her brothers, "Roscoe," "Dick Tom" and Kenny; and her sister, Lorraine.
Connie leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted daughter, Sheri of Washington, DC; one sister, Cora of Charlottesville, Virginia; a niece, like a daughter, Antoinette (Korey) of Charlottesville, Virginia; two cousins, like sisters, Diane and Debbie of Louisa, Virginia and Spotsylvania, Virginia, respectively; a god-sister, Brenda of Louisa, Virginia; devoted nieces and nephews, Tamara, Sa'niah, Tracy, Kevin, Josh, Kevina, Nevaeh and Kyheim; an adopted grandson, Jaylan; close friends, Tracie Williams, Holly Edwards, Ruby Ford and Sally Barbour; and a host of other relatives and friends.
"To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power; or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow." -Maya Angelou
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Eagle Baptist Church, 4683 Mt. Airy Road, Louisa, Virginia, with the Rev. Roger Braxton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Arrangements are being made by D. D. Watson Mortician, Inc., Louisa.

Connie and I were friends from high school days in Louisa County. We became family years later when we married brothers. She helped me choose my daughter Dannita's name. She was a sweet kind, person and I always loved talking with her. Family was so important to her and she always spoke of us getting our girls together- Dannita and Sherri. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Sherri and Cora at this most difficult time. Just know your Mom and Sister showed the love of Jesus to me whenever we encountered one another and I will never forget her!
