Peter Downs Obituary
At his request, no service will be held.
Peter was born November 11, 1927, in South Hampton, New York, to Clarence and Arminda Downs.
Peter graduated from Fort Schyler Merchant Marine Academy in 1948. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1953 and Cornell University Medical School in 1957. During the Vietnam War, Peter served as commanding officer of the 3rd MASH. After retiring from active duty, he continued to serve in the Army Reserve. Peter was a surgeon in private practice in Hampton, Virginia, then worked in the emergency room in Virginia Beach until his retirement in 1990. Peter and his wife Peggy moved from Virginia Beach to Lake Anna in 1997.
Peter is survived by his wife (whom he met in 1984 and married Sept. 4, 1987); two sons, Kevin Downs (wife Heather) of Connecticut and Daniel Downs of Florida; two grandchildren, Ian and Hannah Downs.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
