Dr. Alan A. Block October 24, 1940 January 27, 2017 Dr. Alan A. Block, Emeritus Professor of Criminology and Jewish Studies at Penn State University, passed away at his home in Bandera, Texas in the early moments of January 27, 2017, after a decade-long struggle with Alzheimer's. Dr. Block's influence and legacy in the field of criminology is profound. His collection of work ranges from his groundbreaking research on Iran Contra, through his years investigating the waste management industry, money laundering, and toxic waste, to his final years chasing down the monies in gas scams and international banking. Alan was an inspiration for generations of criminologists. He was a professor at the University of Alfred, the University of Delaware and the Pennsylvania State University. He led international programs in Denmark, Wales, and The Netherlands, taking hundreds of students to study abroad. As advisor to many graduate students, he helped shape the research of a generation. Editor of many international academic publications he also authored numerous books. But mostly, Alan Abner Block was The most interesting man in the universe; who had the capacity to impress you, humble you, and fully engage you with only a few sentences.
