Barrie Jane Kintner
February 20, 1945 - September 13, 2025
Port Matilda, Pennsylvania - Barrie Jane Kintner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 13, 2025.
Born on February 20, 1945, in Jarrettown, Pennsylvania, Barrie lived a life marked by compassion, curiosity, and boundless energy. She was the devoted wife of Michael Kintner, her loving husband of 60 years, and together they built a life full of adventure, laughter, and deep love.
Barrie is survived by her daughter Kimberly Sharp and son-in-law Michael Sharp; her cherished granddaughters Robin Sharp (husband Matthew Graves) and Melody Sharp, who were the pride and lights of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Beatrice Wylie Detwiler and William Wylie, her stepfather Thomas Detwiler, her brothers Wayne and Bill Wylie, and many adored fur babies-most recently her beloved dog, Smokey.
A lifelong believer in staying active, Barrie was a dedicated runner who completed the Boston Marathon five times, as well as the Philadelphia and Marine Corps marathons. She remained an avid cyclist into her late 70s and continued to enjoy daily walks and scooter rides in the park with Mike, even in her final months.
Barrie had a warm creative spirit and a love for sewing and quilting. She was a proud member of the Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church's quilting club, where she genuinely connected with the other wonderful members.
A passionate animal lover, Barrie devoted more than 4,000 volunteer hours in retirement to Centre County PAWS, advocating for and caring for animals in need. She was known to stop and greet nearly every dog she saw-on the street, in the park, or especially along the beach.
Barrie also had a lifelong love for Ocean City, New Jersey. She grew up visiting the shore, honeymooned there with Mike, and returned year after year. She found joy in walking the boardwalk, searching for beach glass, and watching sandpipers scurry along the waves.
She loved spending quiet time at home with Mike playing cards, board games, or working on jigsaw puzzles-simple pleasures that brought them great joy throughout the years.
A dedicated educator, Barrie spent her career as an elementary school teacher, touching countless young lives with patience, kindness, and encouragement.
Barrie was also a world traveler who explored far-off places with curiosity and wonder-yet always returned home with an appreciation for the simple joys: a good walk, a warm quilt, a shared laugh, or a dog's tail wag.
Above all, Barrie believed in kindness, hard-work, and generosity. She lived by those values every day, and her legacy will continue to ripple outward through everyone she touched.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in
Barrie's memory to your local humane society.
Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., in Bellefonte.
