Bruce Emery Obituary

Bruce Emery
December 17, 1945 - December 26, 2020
Centre Hall, Pennsylvania - Bruce W. Emery, 75, of Centre Hall, passed away at home on Saturday, December 26, 2020. Born on December 17, 1945 in Centre Hall, he was the son of the late William "Ike" and Lois "Maude" (Poorman) Emery. On October 28, 1966 in Roanoke, VA, he married the love of his life, Alice J. Hoffman, who survives at home.
Bruce was a 1963 graduate of Penns Valley High School. In 1971, he enlisted with the US Army Reserves, earning the rank of E-2 during his six years of service. He was a furnace liner for Cerro, retiring in 2008 after 38 years of service.
Bruce was an outdoorsman. He loved to ride his four wheelers, motorcycles, go hunting, and to travel. He had been to all but four states over the years. He enjoyed watching western movies and television shows. He was a Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lions fan. He was a jack of all trades, handyman, and the go to guy whenever you needed help, or something repaired. He loved attending the Grange Fair. They have had a tent there for 56 years, but he would spend his time sitting on the benches outside of the main office and greet his friends and coworkers as they passed by. His son, Michael, will forever remember this year's hunting experience with Bruce, the quiet, calm, no words needed, time spent with him, while his other son, Dave, will forever remember going out for their every Sunday breakfasts they would enjoy together. He was a family man above all else.
Along with his wife, Bruce is survived by his two sons, Michael D. Emery and his wife, Martha, of Potters Mills and David B. "Dave" Emery of Centre Hall; one grandson, Freddy Emery; one brother, Roger Hearn and his wife, Lois, of La Port, IN; one sister, Judy Rhoades and her husband, Larry, of Howard; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his brother, Kay Hearn, and his sisters, Gail Truxal and Emma Leigey.
Due to the current restrictions, the family has decided to have a memorial service at a later date to honor the life of Bruce.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc 228 S. Pennsylvania Ave. #579 Centre Hall, PA 16828. An online guest book can be signed or condolences to the family available at www.daughenbaughfuneralhome.com.

Dear Alice, Mike and Dave, We are so very sorry to hear of Bruce's passing. We will cherish our special memories of riding 4 wheelers together and getting groceries (eating out) as Bruce would say. We will miss our talks on the front porch with him. We are blessed to have been friends for almost 68 years. Deepest sympathy to his family.

What can I possibly say about my Uncle Brucie. I loved my Uncle Brucie, he always made me laugh and gave some great hugs. He would do anything for anybody and never expect anything in return. He was 10 years older than me and as a kid he was always the real cool uncle. Even if he did eat his mashed potatoes with milk and ketchup, if my memory is right. He was a smoker back then and I remember as a young girl crawling on his lap and pounding his T-shirt pocket that had his pack of cigarettes in it, I would smash the daylights out of them cuz I didn't want him to smoke, he would just laugh, never get mad at me at all and yes he would smoke smashed cigarettes. That's when cigarettes were real cheap by the way. My husband and boys used to go up all the time to hang out with Aunt Alice and Uncle Bruce they would take us out to eat Uncle brucie would drive us around pointing out family history which I loved. I will miss him at the Grange Fair telling all the fabulous family stories about my dad, his brother and about his life as a young boy. And his laugh, such a joyous happy laugh. I will never forget you Uncle Brucie and love you always. Hugs to my Aunt Alice, Davey and Mike you're in my prayers and my heart always! Love you...
