Charles Hubler Obituary

Charles 'Charlie' R. Hubler July 30, 1935-February 23, 2012 Charles "Charlie" R. Hubler, 76, of State College, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born July 30, 1935, in Bellefonte, he was a son of the late Montgomery (Monty) and Margaret Irvin Hubler. Charlie grew up on the farm that is now Harris Acres - hence Hubler Road. In 1950, he moved into Boalsburg. Charlie attended school in Boalsburg, was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, and was a long-time member of Boalsburg Fire Company. Charlie had a lawn mowing business for many years. Many people will remember seeing him around town on his white golf cart. In the past five-and-a-half years, Charlie resided at Hearthside Nursing Home, where he was very popular and very lovingly cared for. Charlie is survived by his cousin, Gloria (Joe) Humphreys, of Oak Hall, and their daughters, Dolores Barnes and Hanna Humphreys; and his cousins, Linda O'Neill, of State College, and Richard Irvin, of Zion. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, with visitation from noon to 1 p.m., at Boalsburg United Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boalsburg Fire Company Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 540, Boalsburg, PA 16827. Arrangements by Koch Funeral Home, State College. Charlie was a good neighbor. He plowed snow from our driveway many times and it was much appreciated. He always took the time to stop and talk. He always knew what was going on in town. God bless you, Charlie.

Charlie will be missed. I knew him 20 years ago when he plowed the Boalsburg sidewalks with his specially outfitted lawn tractor with canvas cab, and folks called him "Choo-Choo Charlie." My wife Tracey used to work at Duffy's and always enjoyed his ribald company. When I was a resident at Hearthside four years ago, I was Charlie's next door neighbor for a while; he was always fun. And his wheelchair was faster. Later, when our band would play there, Charlie would be waiting at the door for us, and would always request Mountain Dew, and we'd always play it for him. Charlie was a dear, and will be missed. The world was a better place with him in it. With love, John Dickison and Tracey Harpster

Boalsburg has lost a great one. You will be missed Charlie. Rest In Peace Sir. From the Spicer Family.

Rest in peace, Charlie. You will always be the face of Boalsburg for us - patrolling the area on your mower or in your golf cart. You always had a smile for us and a dirty joke. God Bless you.

Family of Charlie,
My memories of Charlie go back to early 80's when he was the manager of the Boalsburg Steak House Over-35 Softball Team. Charlie and I spent many hours discussing coaching strategy and discussing the supremacy of the John Deere lawn tractor. Charlie, you will be missed and thanks for the memories.
My thoughts and prayers go out to your family,
Joe Hayes (Philipsburg)

Charlie made my Saturday mornings at work MUCH more enjoyable. He was more than content to sit with us and keep us entertained in exchange for a fresh pot of coffee. I am so glad I got the chance to know him, and so very sorry for your loss. Hubes was one of a kind, that's for sure.
