Diane McKinnon Obituary
April 11, 1935 - March 28, 2025
Fort Myers Beach, Florida - Diane Jansen McKinnon, 89, died in Fort Myers Beach, FL on March 28. She was born April 11, 1935 in Combined Locks, WI - the eldest child of Harvard Jansen and Estella (van der Velden) Jansen. She was graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1961 and was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Daniel Jansen (Doris) and son Patrick William McKinnon (Crystal). She is survived by her spouse of 67 years, William H. McKinnon, brother Darrell Jansen (Carol); daughter Courtenay (George IV) and sons George V and William; daughter-in-law Crystal (Ken); Grandson Collin (Anna) and great-grandson Rowan Patrick McKinnon.
Diane was dedicated to her friends and family, never forgetting to send a card for every holiday and planning festive events for family, friends, colleagues and neighbors. Everyone looked forward to her wonderful gatherings and delicious meals.
She was an avid naturalist, quilter, gardener and volunteer. She served as the President of the Penn State Faculty Women's Club, Chapter Advisor for Alpha Phi Sorority, active member in a local investment club and tireless room parent and girl scout troop leader.
She enjoyed summers at Pelican Lake, WI where the entire extended family would come together.
Diane was an active traveler with trips throughout the US, Canada and Europe, including wonderful three-generation family trips to Yellowstone/Grand Teton and cruises to the Baltic region and Alaska. A long-time resident of State College, PA, she and Bill since 2000 had split their time between State College and Fort Myers Beach. In 2020 they moved to Buford GA and continued to winter in Fort Myers Beach.
She will be buried in Decatur, GA at a small family memorial service this spring.

Diane was true to a friend who had ALS, visiting her , comforting her shopping, going for walks, and doing what needed to be done. She was always there when needed. God rest her soul.
