Doris Tobey Obituary

Doris A. Tobey
December 24, 1928 - March 5, 2022
Centre Hall, Pennsylvania - Doris A. Tobey, 93, of Centre Hall, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at her daughter's home. Born on December 24, 1928, in Mineola, NY, she was the daughter of the late Angel and Esther Areskog Saunders. On March 1, 1958, in Baldwin, NY, she married Joshua A. Tobey, who passed away on June 30, 2016.
Doris is survived by five children: Susan E. Fray of Waldorf, MD, Nancy A Boozer and her husband, Robert, of Centre Hall, Bette M. Kozlowski of Wayne, Thomas A Tobey and his wife, Andrea Paulus, of Vancouver, WA, and Ellen A. Stoner and her husband, Todd, of Montoursville. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Ross Boozer and his wife, Stephanie, David Fray, Ann Jauregui and her husband, Juan, Jonathan Fray, Hailey Patrick and her husband, Jeremie, Michael Fray, Clay Stoner and his wife, Natalie, Bryan Kozlowski, Teri Stoner, and Paige Kozlowski; and five great grandchildren, James and Elsie Boozer, Juian Jauregui, and Oakley and Arley Stoner with soon arriving great grandchild number six.
Along with her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by her brother, Harold, her sister, Jeanne and son in-law, Gerald P. Fray.
In 1946, she graduated from Baldwin High School in Baldwin, New York. She graduated from Pembroke College (Brown University) in 1950 with a BA in English Literature. She served as her class treasurer for three years. She worked as a paraprofessional for the State College Area School District for 17 years, retiring in 1991. Most of her time with the district was spent at the Boalsburg and Panorama elementary schools, where she supported the Writing to Read program. She loved working with the young students.
Doris loved her gardens and was always looking to share her perennials with family and friends. She made beautiful flower arrangements from her plants. She had many interests besides flowers, including wool rug braiding, pine cone wreath making, crossword puzzles, walking, and time with friends. She loved birds and all animals, especially her special pet dog, Buddy. She enjoyed bridge, scrabble, card games, and any board game that her grandchildren enjoyed. Her biggest love was her grandchildren and she was able to support them in their many sports and music activities.
Doris was an active volunteer throughout her life as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She also volunteered at the Centre Hall elementary school after retiring. She was a member of the Linden Hall Garden Club, Centre Hall Grace United Methodist and the State College St. Paul's United Methodist women's groups. She was a board member of the Centre Hall Library Friends Association and actively supported the building of the library through all the fundraising activities.
Burial will be private at the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery in Centre Hall. A family celebration of life will be held in July.
In memory of Doris, enjoy a garden, listen to a bird sing, enjoy a game of scrabble or bridge, or read a good book. Spend time with your family and let everyone know how much you love them.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St. Snow Shoe. An online guest book can be signed or condolences to the family available at www.daughenbaughfuneralhome.com.

Susan and all family members. I am sorry for the loss of your mom. She made great contributions to our "Happy Valley". I always enjoyed talking about running at Sears with Josh and i always knew that besides preparing many children for life she was the anchor of the Toby family. I´m glad you had so many years with her and pray that our Lord can assuage your grief at this time of loss.
Sincerely,
Mike "Merc" Morse
