HE MADE THE WORLD'S BEST CHEESESTEAK!
I remember meeting Gus at his State College restaurant, Gus's Dairy Lunch, on College Avenue in the 1960s. He was always kind and engaging. I asked what I should order and he suggested the cheesesteak sandwich. I never had such a good sandwich! THAT SAUCE.......Oh My.... THE BEST....It hangs on my palate as a memory. I was a return customer and always ordered the cheesesteak. When he sold the business, he must not have sold the sauce recipe for the cheesesteaks. They didn't taste the same. I still remember Gus's delicious sauce and his charming smile. I miss them both!

I worked delivering pizza and sandwiches for Gus when I was a freshman at Penn State in 1960. One night as I was delivering at a fraternity, my truck was broken into and all the rest of the food was stolen. I was aghast and returned to the store to tell Gus. He quickly found the orders, prepared the food and told me to complete the deliveries. I was relived since I didn't know what to do and he fixed the situation. He was a great boss!

Georgia and Franney
I was so very sad to hear of your loss. Both of your parents, as well as the both of you were always so very kind to me when I lived in State College. Your father was always trying to feed me whenever I saw him. He will live on in your hearts and memories.

The best cheesesteaks ever. I ate at Gus' often while a single student but then I got married. Even today I think of his eatery when I drive past the building on East College Avenue.
