Hortense Doyle Obituary

Hortense L. Doyle July 6, 1911 - September 23, 2004 Hortense L. Doyle, 93, a resident of The Fairways at Brookline Village, formerly of Howard and Savannah, Ga., died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at The Fairways. Born July 6, 1911, in Savannah, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Andrew Loren and Mamie Anderson Davis. She married Matthew W. Doyle, who preceded her in death. She was a stenographer and had served as office manager for several companies. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in State College. She was one of four generations in her family belonging to Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was initially in the Savannah chapter and most recently was in the Bellefonte chapter. She was a former member of Eastern Star. She taught two generations of children swimming at Savannah Beach and her ashes will be scattered there. She enjoyed gardening and needlework. She is survived by a daughter, Nona Uhler, of Howard; two sisters, Mary Harvard, of Savannah, Ga., and Gladys Wagner, of Gwynedd; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in October with time and place to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of W. Robert Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main St., Howard.
