Maria Smolarczyk Obituary

Maria Antonina Smolarczyk

June 13, 1953 - December 9, 2023

State College, Pennsylvania - Maria Antonina Smolarczyk, 70, of State College, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Hershey Medical Center.

Born June 13, 1953, in Lódz, Poland, she went onto receive her Master of Arts in Romance Philology from the University of Warsaw, one of the most prestigious universities in Poland. Her studies in applied linguistics, geography, and foreign trade mirrored her love of travel. Maria took multiple treks across Europe; sometimes, only bringing a few provisions and furs to trade along the way.

After immigrating to the US, she developed a passion for gardening, which, later on, became a far second to her love for her grandchildren, whom she spoiled with chocolate every visit.

She is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Valchar and her husband, Zachary, of Leesburg, VA, and Marta Roy and her husband, Michael, of State College; and 6 grandchildren.

The memorial mass will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, PA, with Father George Jakopac officiating.
