Peter Luckie Obituary

Peter Tyler Luckie

September 19, 1938 - December 10, 2024

Richmond, Virginia - Dr. Peter Tyler Luckie, 86, went to be with his wife, Joan, sister Sue, and parents, Robert and Tans, on December 10, 2024. Alas, it was his body that declined and failed; His mind remained keen till the end, as anyone who knew him would have suspected.

Peter received all of his degrees, which included a doctorate in mineral processing, from The Pennsylvania State University. It was there that he met and fell in love with his wife of 49 years, Joan MacDowell Luckie. After several years in the mining engineering private sector, he was asked to return to his alma mater to be a Professor of Mineral Engineering in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. He retired from Penn State in 2000 as the Associate Dean for Research in that same college. Peter was very passionate about the University, and more specifically, anything Penn State Football. He was a season ticket holder for decades. His only true hobby, outside of being a philatelist, were his children, all of whom received degrees from Penn State as well. In addition, he was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and served there in several capacities. For his final decade, Peter resided in Richmond, Virginia with his second daughter, Amy, where he was an integral part of caring for and raising his youngest grandchildren, Finleigh and Tyler.

He is survived by his children Ann (Andrew) Luckie Bieniawski of Charlottesville, VA, Amy (Bradley) Luckie Homar of Richmond, VA, and Mark (Carrie) Luckie of Fishers, IN. He also leaves behind grandchildren Austin (Megan) Bieniawski, Lauren (Holden) Fiedler, Quinn (Carlie) Luckie, Zoe Luckie, Isabel Luckie, Finleigh Homar, and Tyler Homar. He also leaves behind one great grandchild, Hazel Fiedler. He is also survived by his oldest brother Robert (Kathleen) Luckie.

A memorial service in honor of Peter will be held on Saturday, March 8th at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 208 W Foster Ave, State College, PA.
