Russell Vance Rhoades Sr. December 12, 1919 - October 6, 2007 Russell Vance Rhoades Sr. 87, of Howard, died Saturday, October 6, 2007, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born Dec. 12, 1919, in Osceola Mills, he was a son of the late Edwin and Gertrude Beckwith Rhoades. Russell was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and a veteran of World War II. He was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He held various jobs during his lifetime. On Dec. 12, 1944, he married Evelyn Amelia Lucas. He enjoyed camping, mowing and the outdoors. He also loved to spend time with family and friends. He was a long-time member of the Fairview Union Church in Boggs Township. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Russell Rhoades Jr., and his wife, Linda, Larry Rhoades and his wife, Judy, Karen Runkle and her husband, Terry, Kathy Gummo and her husband, Ed., and Randy, all of Howard, and Joanne Geisinger and her husband, George, of Pleasant Gap. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Blanche, of Loganton; and two brothers, Lloyd, of Bellefonte, and Edwin, of Scranton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Sanford; and three sisters, Cora, Aggie and Hazel. Friend will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main St., Howard. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Chris Pfleegor officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview Union Church in care of Judy Rhoades, 109 State Game Land Road, Howard, PA 16841.
