He taught me the elementary backstroke in 1957 at Camp Acadia. Then swam next to me as I did the laps doing the elementary backstroke to pass the deep-water test. I was grateful for that. I swim for conditioning to this day.
A few years after that in 1963 he challenged a group of Juniors at Acadia to a game of Volleyball. He, against a gang of us 12 & 13 year olds. The rules were modified such that while we played normal volleyball, he had to make all the returns using his feet; soccer style and he could have one bounce of the ball on his side. What a tour de force.
After he trounced us, he picked up his clipboard and went on his way. Such strong memories and feelings and more.

Aunt Davies and cousins I am so sorry to hear about uncle Walt he was a great guy. Whenever I would see him he'd make cracks about my Iggles and my philly accent. I have fond memories of picnics at Grand Moms in mount holly and watching AFC football games at your house when we would visit on a Sunday, he tried to teach me soccer but no luck he will be missed.

Mrs. Bahr and Family:
My dad, Frank Lynch, asked me to provide his condolences as he is no longer able to write. My father grew up across the street from Walt on Rorer Street in Kensington. He remembers Walt as an outstanding athlete, not just in soccer but in anything he tried. More importantly he remembers him as an outstanding friend and one of the finest and most upstanding people you could ever meet. He remembers that the first vacation he ever had was with Walt and his family from Rorer Street to Wildwood. He has never forgotten that kindness. He would often accompany Walt to soccer games, although he much favored playing baseball and basketball. He became a soccer fan to witness his friend's great talent. He smiled when he recalled that he could never forget Walt's birthday, given the date, and that they were born about three months apart.
They still would see each other occasionally after each was married, but their meetings became much less frequent after the move to Boalsburg. Those good memories my father has from the days in Kensington remain firm and pleasant after all these many years.
May your memories of a life very well lived help to sustain you with the loss you have suffered, and the fact that others have Walt and you and the family in their thoughts and prayers provide some comfort. God bless!

My deepest sympathy goes out to Davies, Casey, Chris, Matt, Davies Ann and the extended Bahr family. In the 1960s I was in my 20s when our paths crossed at a summer camp in the Catskill mountains and would continue for a number of summers to come. It was there that I observed the interaction of Walt and Davies as they worked with children of all ages and, especially, with their own kids. It is impossible for me to just remember Walt without the other members of his family and I believe others' at OLL &
Acadia would say the same.
Walt helped me to become a better educator, coach and husband by just observing how he worked with other people. Over the years I have called upon many of Walt's witticisms
and good natured fun when dealing with my own children and now their kids; they love it!
Davies, I would observe you and Walt interacting in many camp situations and you both displayed respect and compatibility with each other that I hoped I would experience some day. I believe you helped me smooth out some
rough spots in the road of life.
As I close, I would like you to know that the Camp crowd is presently learning of Walt's passing and I'm
sure you will be hearing from them.
Thank you Walter Bahr for many great summers filled with good memories.
God Bless!

Coach Bahr was a great player, teacher and coach.I know that his impact on my life, as well as other players on our teams, was profound. He was a true role model. I went into education and eventually coaching because of Mr. Bahr. I am saddened by his passing but I can again see him leading the US team again in the next game against England on the field in the sky. My thoughts and prayers are with the Bahr family. Butch Mathes

Mr. Bahr was my basketball and soccer coach at Frankford High from 1964-1966. As the son of a single mom without many male role models Mr. Bahr treated me the way any son would want to be treated with patience, tolerance and understanding. Years later after serving in Viet Nam, I graduated from both Penn State and Temple (his schools). With my wife and four kids, I went on to teach Kinesiology (Phys Ed) and coach (his profession) for 34 years at Penn Ogontz (now Abington).
As a city kid from K&A and Juniata, I would never have succeeded in life without Mr Bahr's guidance. Many of my accomplishments over the last 54 years started with meeting, playing and certainly learning important values from Mr. Bahr.
I know I just one of thousands of kids he's motivated and inspired.
Thanks, Mr Bahr. You'l never be forgotten.

Mrs Bahr, Casey, Matt, Chris, Davies-Ann and the extended Bahr family,
We are so very saddened to hear of Coach Bahr's passing earlier this week. Coach taught so many of us how to play the beautiful game beautifully. But more importantly he taught us how to live our lives with humility and dignity. We learned so from Coach. He was a brilliant coach and a thorough gentleman.

Sincere condolences to the Bahr family as I read the sad news of Coach Bahr's passing on Philly.com. Had the privilege of having Coach Bahr for a phys. ed soccer class at PSU. Having never played before,I found him to be a great teacher and extraordinarily kind and patient with me. I will never forget him kneeling on the grass at Jeffrey Field helping me look for my two hard contact lenses that flew out when I headed the ball in a drill. Great instructor, great storyteller and a great representative for the sport of soccer. Really, a great all-around guy who seemed to love coaching, was proud of his family and had a fantastic sense of humor and wonderful outlook on life that I recall fondly from just one trimester a long time ago. God Bless all of you during this difficult time. Sincerely, Bill Gilger PSU Class of 1979

Please accept my condolences during your time of great loss. May you cherish fond memories to cope with the pain from day to day. He was a great soccer coach. Take note of the comforting words at 1Thessalonians 4:14 which states: "For if we have faith that Jesus died and rose again, so too God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in death through Jesus." There is hope of seeing your love one again. Until then, may God massage your heart and help you cope with this loss.

Walt Bahr was among the greatest collegiate soccer coaches in U. S. history. I learned all I know about coaching from him --and about one third of what he knew. Even more importantly, Walt was a true gentleman, a ideal sportsman, and a model for playing the game and living your life as it should be led. My condolences to the Bahr family--I'll play my trumpet for Walt one more time.
