Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania - Walter Vincent Eck, died April 21, 2022 at home with his family by his side.
He was born at home on February 4, 1931 to Walter and Martha (Steppe) Eck. Walter married the former Joy Ellen Bottin on October 2, 1950 and they were married 71 years.
Walter worked at Lundy Lumber Company for 35 years and retired from Your Building Centers in 1996.
Walter is survived by his wife, Joy; nine sons, Stephen Joseph, (Debbie), Jersey Shore, Daniel Carl (Linda), State College, Harold Paul, (Deb), Jersey Shore, Michael Francis, Williamsport, Randall Thomas, (Dina), Chandler, AZ, Bernard Vincent, (Julie), State College, John Fitzgerald (Jodi), Lock Haven, Lawrence Charles, (Kelly), Mill Hall and Craig Philip (Holly), Fisherville, KY; three daughters, Nancy (Adam) Rawding, Bellefonte, Suzanne (Ronald) Sander, Williamsport and Amy (Timothy) Saar, Jersey Shore; three sisters, Arlene (David) Hurd, Pauline (Patrick) Steinbacher and Jane (James)Surfield; and was blessed with 47 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Shawn, (Tracy); two daughters, Ellen Suzanne and Julianne Joy; seven sisters and 3 brothers.
He was a lifelong member and communicant of Immaculate Conception BVM Roman Catholic Church, Bastress.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially running the chains at the Jersey Shore Home football games for 45 years. He also kept the wrestling book for 30 years. He served on the Jersey Shore School Board for 12 years and he was president when the Avis and Nippenose Valley Elementary Schools were built. He also was a founder of the Nippenose Valley Little League and coached a team for several years.
Joy would like to thank her children and Cindy Olson for their love and care of Walter.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in Walter's name to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 5973 Jacks Hollow Road, Williamsport, PA 17702-8892.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 5973 Jacks Hollow Road, Williamsport, PA. Visitation will on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 1-3 pm and 5-8 pm at the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 North Main Street, Jersey Shore, PA . Father Bert Kozen will officiate. Walter will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery.
