Wilson Moses Obituary
March 5, 1942 - June 13, 2024
State College, Pennsylvania - Wilson Jeremiah Moses of State College, PA died on June 13, 2024 in State College, PA at the age of 82. He was born in Detroit, MI, son of the late William Heard Moses and Ida Mae (Johnson) Moses. He is survived by his wife Maureen (Connor) Moses, married November 30, 1963.
Wilson and Maureen had two sons, William and Jeremiah, four granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his sister Miriam Moses and survived by his sister Roselyn Higgins and several nieces and nephews.
Wilson received a BA and MA from Wayne State University and a PhD from Brown University. He taught literature and history at Wayne State, Iowa State, SMU, Brown University, Boston University, and Penn State. He published eleven books, including several widely acknowledged works of history.
He was a first-rate scholar who loved to learn and write. He respected all people and enjoyed the absurdity of the human condition. He was fluent in German, and continued his studies in French into his 60s. He enjoyed classical music and loved opera, and had a special fondness for the violin which he played.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 2pm at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College, with Jackie Naginey Hook officiating.

I worked with Dr. Moses in the history department at PSU. He was one of the nicest people I ever met. It was a pleasure being around him.

Wilson was a good and caring man. He was also a friend who asked for help caring for Maureen; I was glad to help. My fondest memory is when he made lunch for Maureen and me a couple months ago. It was such a kind gesture. He will be missed!
