Lucious Hill Obituary

"God shall redeem my soul from the power of the grave; for He shall receive me." (Psalm 49:15) On the 13th day of May, 1948, God blessed the union of Lucious Hill Sr. and Pearlie M. Hill with the birth of their first son, Lucious Hill, Jr. in Chicago. Lew grew up in a loving family that included two siblings: Janet D. Carter-Black and Dana A. Hill. At ten years old Brother Hill was baptized into the Christian faith by Reverend Landis C. Mitchell in Chicago, Illinois. For several years, Lucious attended services under the leadership of Reverend Napoleon R. Davis of Second Baptist Church, Harvey, Illinois. Later he worshipped under the pastorate of the late Reverend Joseph Wells of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago. Lew was educated in the Chicago Public Schools, he graduated from Thornton Township High School and attended Thornton Junior College, Harvey. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973 when he was honorably discharged. On June 23, 1974, Lucious was joined in Holy Matrimony to Brenda Joyce Carter at Lilydale First Baptist Church, Chicago. by Reverend Wendell L. Johnson. The couple relocated to Carbondale, Illinois, where Lucious earned his Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW) at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. The couple then relocated to Champaign where he began post-graduate work toward his MSW. As a resident of Champaign-Urbana, and a Christian, Brother Lucious Hill, Jr. united with Canaan Baptist Church in 1978, under the leadership of Founding Pastor B.J. Tatum. He served as a member of the S.W.A.T. (Soul Winning Action Team), Evangelistic Street Outreach Ministry and Children's Church teacher until his failing health progressed. Mr. Hill was employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections as a Residence Counselor II for twenty-two years. He was thenemployed by the United States Postal Service in Champaign, for two years, and later by the University of Illinois as a Building Service worker for eight years until his final retirement. Lucious Hill, Jr. departed this life on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 2:11 a.m. in Carle Hospital, Urbana, Illinois. He leaves to mourn his passing a loving wife, Brenda J. Hill; four children: Lea M. Hill, Michelle N. Hill, Jonathan D. Hill, and Katrina N. Galey (Michael); a sister, Dr. Janet D. Carter-Black (the late David), and a brother, Dana A. Hill. Lucious also leaves three loving grandchildren:Valerie Hill-Galey, Laila Hill, and Michael Galey, all of Champaign and a host of other relatives and friends. Brother Lucious Hill, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Lucious Hill, Sr. and Pearlie M. Hill. "[He] fought the good fight, [he] finished the race, [he] kept the faith " (2 Timothy 4:7) A celebration of life will commence at 12:00 Noon Saturday June 21, 2025 at Canaan Baptist Church 402 West Main St. Eulogist: Pastor B J Tatum. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service. Internment: Grandview Memorial Gardens.
