Dr. Rev. A. Allen Brindisi

A. Brindisi Obituary

Rev. Dr. A. Allen Brindisi
The Rev. Dr. Brindisi, pastor of the Davidson College Presbyterian Church since December 2000, died on September 26, 2006 after a battle with cancer. He was born on April 28, 1946 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, the son of the Rev. P. Arthur Brindisi and the late Viola Allen Brindisi. Rev. Brindisi earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Colgate University, a Master of Divinity at Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry at McCormick Theological Seminary. Ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament in 1971 by the Presbytery of Utica, NY, he served pastorates in Evans City, PA, Niagara Falls, NY, Cocoa Beach, FL, and Davidson, NC. He served as moderator of the Presbytery of Central Florida, and recently served as an alumni trustee for Princeton Theological Seminary.
Under Rev. Brindisi's leadership at Davidson College Presbyterian Church, the congregation conducted a capital campaign known as 'With Hearts, Hands, and Voices' which resulted in the recent dedication of a new Congregation House for Fellowship, a refurbished and expanded pipe organ, the establishment of a columbarium at the church, and generous gifts of benevolence monies to specific mission projects locally at the Ada Jenkins Center and around the world. Rev. Brindisi's preaching touched not only the congregation of DCPC, but also a large radio audience through the live radio broadcast of the Sunday worship service on WDAV.
By far the most notable attribute of Rev. Brindisi's ministry, however, was his caring and pastoral manner in dealing with others, whether members of his congregation or in the larger community such as the partnership he initiated with a Presbyterian congregation in Kikuyu, Kenya to build a Youth and Child Development Center to provide educational opportunities for pre-school children and youth. The Center opened in early 2006 and serves children orphaned by AIDS and youth seeking computer training.
Rev. Brindini reflected often on his successful ministry and how the Lord blessed each church with numerical and physical growth, peace, and unity. However, he was always quick to say that the crowning achievement of his life was found not in his professional career, but in the partnership with his wife, Ann, as they gave the world two sons of whom they are most proud.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ann Chabot Brindisi, whom he met while in youth fellowship in their middle school years. He is also survived by son, Jess Brindisi, daughter-in-law, Sue Brindisi, and grandson Jack, all of Gainesville, VA; son, Corey Brindisi of Key West, FL; father, the Rev. P. Arthur Brindisi and step-mother, Norma of Leesburg, FL; and sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Gary Gildersleeve of New Hartford, NY.
A memorial service celebrating his life and witnessing the hope of the resurrection will be held at Davidson College Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 30, at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends in the new Congregation House immediately following the service.

Allen was a dear friend and classmate at Princeton. He was a groomsman in our wedding. In early ministry Allen and Ann and my wife and I shared many happy times. We will miss him. May the Holy Spirit bring comfort to His family. Gary and Becky Ziegler

My heart stopped for a moment today. Then I immediately remembered something Allen told me when my Dad passed away and I wanted to how to 'get over it'....Allen said there is no getting over it....it's being blessed that you had the experience of the person...and there's more to come.I will thank God daily for every remembrance of Allen...and so thankful God blessed me to know him.

We will miss Allen so much. One of his many gifts was to take God's words and make them meaningful and useful in today's world. He was so influential in our lives and the lives of our 4 children. We are glad that he and Ann met at a young age so they had these years together.

I went to the 50th anniversary service at Riverside Presbyterian and saw the announcement in the bulletin. I attend the First United Methodist Church across the street. I have many fond memories of combined services for Easter on the beach. Also, Vacaton Bible school sessions. I hope he enjoyed the beatuiful area the College is in and saw first-hand God's world of nature. Sorry for your loss and hope the many memories you both created are comforting.

As a radio listening "member" of Dr. Brindisi's flock, I am very sorry to hear of his passing -- like Jesus, he called for broad inclusion and compassion for our fellow man, every week helping us re-focus our mission to share God's Love with all. We'll miss him.

Allen was truely a vessel of the Holy Spirit. His sincere, caring demeanor, his playfulness, his witty humor, his stirring, thought provoking sermons and his dedication to living out the Word made him a treasured blessing. We give thanks for having had him in our lives and extend our deepest sympathy to all his family: the Rev. & Mrs. P. Arthur Brindisi and especially to Ann, Jess and Corey.

Allen became more than a minister. He became a shoulder to lean on, someone to share a joke with, a mentor for those still seeking their way, and a friend on level terms. I will miss him.

I was very saddened to hear of Allen's passing. I remembered our trip to Washington, D.C., learning some new Christian songs and even one that Allen had written himself as we sat around a campfire setting in what has now become the parking lot at Plains Church in Cranberry. Ann, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Yours in Christ, Karen Bark Scheboth and family

To the Brindisi Family...... We just heard about Allan's passing, and it hurts so much to think about him not being able to continue his wonderful work here on earth. We loved him dearly, and he was such an important part of our lives here in Cocoa Beach. He was loved by all who knew him here, and we're sure he was equally loved by his church members in Davidson. Our hearts go out to all his family for this terrible loss. Greta and Dave Jones

Mr. Brindisi provided some of the best memories for me growing up in Cocoa Beach. He took our youth group on several mission trips that I can't thank him enough for those experiences. He made a big impact in my life and I am thankful for everything he did.

Allen was our pastor and friend. His sermons were always challenging and informative. We loved Allen because of his loving nature with everyone. He quickly learned names of parishioners and would call people by their first names. He also referred to himself as "Allen." Von and I began attending DCPC in 2002 primarily because of Allen and the warm feeling of the congregation. Allen was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. Today is a sad day in the life of DCPC. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ann and the family.
Blessings,
