Alan William Castellion
Mr. Castellion, 75, of Charlotte, passed into the loving hands of the Lord on December 19, 2009 with his beloved family by his side after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
He was born May 1, 1934 in North Tonawanda, NY to the late Clarence and Nora Castellion. He graduated from the University of Buffalo with a B.S. in Pharmacy where he enjoyed collegiate fencing. He then received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Utah, where he also did his postdoctoral fellowship. His professional life began with Smith, Kline and French in Philadelphia in research and development of innovative drugs. Soon after, he moved to Oxford, NY where he and his family lived for 30 years while he worked at Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals (later Procter & Gamble) in research and development and eventually in international regulatory affairs/product development. He became an expert in international drug regulations. He traveled extensively in Europe, Japan, the Middle East and the U.S. to help develop an initiative for investigators to understand the rules for testing new drugs. After retirement, he developed a consulting business in this field and continued this when he moved to North Carolina. He was a member of several professional organizations including American Pharmaceutical Association, Drug Information Association & Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society.
Alan was a Boy Scout who enjoyed the outdoors, his many pets, backpacking with his brother and daughters, photography, gardening, and especially traveling the world, experiencing different cultures and meeting new people.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Judith, two daughters, Dr. Deena Castellion and Jocelyn Catellion Miles, all of the Charlotte, NC area, brother George Castellion of Stamford, CT, two sisters, Yvonne Savory of Grand Island, NY, Cynthia DeChano of Clarendon, PA and his two grandchildren, Witt and Ellie Miles of Charlotte, NC.
