Albert Walser Obituary
STATESVILLE -- Mr. Albert (Bert) Franklin Walser, 60, of 337 Earlwood Road, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday morning, May 7, 2003.
He was born June 8, 1942 in Salisbury, NC, and was the son of Mrs. Louise Rufty Walser of Salisbury and the late Sink Albert Walser. He was a graduate of Boyden High School and received his degree in Business Administration in 1963 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He graduated with honors and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Law Degree from Wake Forest University in 1977. From 1963 until 1977 he was associated with Midstate Oil Company and then opened his law office in Statesville.
On December 21, 1963 he was married to Sue Carter Walser, who survives. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where he had served as an Elder and a Deacon.
Active in community and charitable organizations, he had served on the Hospice Board of Directors, Board of the Iredell Museum, Board of the ElderCenter, and the Advisory Council for the Foundation of the Carolinas. He was a member of the Iredell Bar Association and was one of the founding directors of the Bank of Iredell.
He loved his family and friends and enjoyed playing bridge.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by two sons, Adam Carter Walser, Florence, AL, and Jason Albert Walser and his wife, Tracy Thomas Walser, Salisbury, NC; one grandson, Ian Thomas Walser, Salisbury, NC; one brother, David lee Walser, Cornelius, NC; as well as two nephews and one niece.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 PM Friday, May 9, at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Stephen Scott and Reverend Grant Sharp officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bob Cook, Judge Robert A. Collier, Jr., Edwin Hunter, John Clark, Dr. Sam Stout, Melvin Kelly, Gerald Bromstead, and Albert Schneider. Honorary pallbearers will be General William Lackey (Ret.), Bill Walker, Bob Ebert, Saul Gordon, Paul Gilbert, John Gilbert, David Rokes and Duke Williams.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
