Andrew Plepler Obituary

Andrew D. Plepler, 64, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025 after a courageous five year battle with lymphoma. He was born in Manchester, Connecticut in 1960, the second of two children. He graduated from The Loomis Chafee School, Franklin & Marshall College, and the University of Miami Law School. Plepler had a lifelong commitment to social justice, exemplified by his 1996 co-founding of the Urban Alliance in Washington, DC. This nonprofit has connected paid internships and workforce skills training to over 21,000 young adults in multiple US cities. A passionate sports fan, he maintained his boyhood alliance to his beloved Boston Red Sox, reveling in their four World Series wins during his lifetime.

Until retiring in 2024, he was Bank of America's Global Head of ESG, where he spearheaded the company's focus on environmental, social and governance factors. He engaged with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including the company's executive management committee, investors, consumer advocates and community leaders, to help inform and shape the bank's strategies, policies, practices and programs. Plepler chaired the bank's National Community Advisory Council, which for more than ten years has brought together public and private sector leaders to provide external perspective and advise the bank on responsible business practices. Prior to joining Bank of America, Plepler served as senior vice president of Housing and Community Initiatives with the Fannie Mae Foundation. Plepler previously served as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Tax Division and on Capitol Hill as counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

He is survived by his wife, Tracy Curtis; his children Alexandra, Jonathan (Mary Summers), and Catherine Plepler; his stepchildren Colton and Fletcher Curtis; his brother Richard (Lisa) Plepler; his niece Eden Plepler; his mother Constance Plepler, and legions of devoted friends, relatives, and mentees whose lives he profoundly touched. He is predeceased by his father, Sanford Plepler. Contributions can be made in his memory to Urban Alliance (https://www.urbanalliance.org/) or the charities of the donors' choice. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14 at Temple Beth El, 5101 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. Interment will follow at the Hebrew Cemetery.

I have the honor of being one of The Bank of America suite attendants at The Bank of America Stadium and The Spectrum Center in Charlotte. I was fortunate enough to meet Andrew and his family there at The Hornets and The Panthers games where they enjoyed the sporting events . Andrew loved and cherished his family deeply. The family has always been so kind to me and very special. My heart felt condolences go out to his family, friends, and to anyone who had the pleasure to cross paths with him. Andrew will be sorely missed.
