Barbara Crisp Obituary

Barbara Earl Crisp

April 26, 1945 - November 26, 2023

Blowing Rock, North Carolina - Barbara Earl Crisp, age 78 passed away peacefully on November 26, 2023 after a long battle with dementia. Barbara was married to the love of her life, M. Douglas Crisp and is reunited with him in Heaven. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Crisp Mathis, her son-in-law James and their children, Grace and Owen Mathis as well as her son Andrew Crisp, his wife Katie, and their children Anna Kate and Charlotte Crisp. She is also survived by her sister Debbie Earl Burton and her family of Seminole, Florida, her great aunt Anne Canning of South Pasadena, Florida, her sister-in-law, Dr. Susan Crisp and her family of Upper Arlington, Ohio and the Snead family of Richmond, Virginia.

Born April 26, 1945 in Santa Barbara, California, Barbara grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida with her sister Debbie and her parents Stella and Russel Earl. She met Doug while working at First Union in Charlotte, and they fell in love and married August 21, 1971. Barbara and Doug started their family in Charlotte then moved to Gastonia, NC to raise their children. ln 1996 they moved back to Charlotte and split their time between the city and the mountains in Blowing Rock, NC.

A wonderful mother and wife, she was loving, kind, fun and thoughtful. As a homemaker, she was involved in the PTA and church groups and took the kids to art lessons, school events, sports practices and games. She helped with homework and projects, loved to laugh and ran the household with love.

A creative soul, she sewed, cross-stitched and knitted, was an avid daily crossword worker and loved jigsaw puzzles. Barbara also loved gardening and traveling. Barbara and Doug had an active social life with many dear friends in Gastonia and later in Charlotte and Blowing Rock. She loved her dogs, a daily walk, the treehouse porch and mountain sunsets, and was especially delighted by her grandchildren.

She was a loving wife, mom and grandmother, full of hugs and kind words. She was encouraging, supportive and engaging. She cared deeply about her family and friends, and she will be missed tremendously by all those that were lucky enough to know her. A service celebrating her life will be Friday, December 1, 2023 at 2:00 at First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte.

Barbara and I became friends at First Presbyterian Church. She was gracious and thoughtful as well as beautiful ( loved those blue eyes) I was so excited when we moved a few doors down from Barbara and Doug; I got to meet her adorable grandchildren. Sadly, dementia was beginning to steal her essence but not her spirit. May God bless her family with peace and hope in this season of celebrating the light of the world. Bonnie Gilbert

Heaven just gained an incredibly beautiful soul! We know Dougie is happy to have the love of his life by his side again. Such a wonderful couple we miss dearly, and blessed to call our friends. Our love to Jennifer and Andy, and all the family!
