Barbara Levin Obituary
May 29, 1928 - December 14, 2025
Charlotte, North Carolina - Barbara, 97, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2025, at her home in Charlotte. She was surrounded by her loving family and devoted caregivers.
Born, May 29, 1928, in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Bazar and Margie Silverstein Bazar (a Charlotte native). Barbara graduated from Boston University in 1950 with a degree in communications. She worked at WBUR Radio in Boston during its nascent years.
Barbara met Jerry on one of her many family visits to Charlotte. They were married in 1951. She was active in the community as a BBG advisor, board member of the Charlotte regional ballet and past president of the ballet guild. She was a life member of Hadassah and held many board positions with Hadassah, the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte and the Charlotte Jewish Day School.
Barbara and Jerry (married for 74 years) founded the Charlotte Jewish Day School Scholarship Endowment Fund and have supported many worthwhile activities in the community.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Jerome "Jerry" Levin, and four children Binyamin (Ilana) Levin, Linda (Mark) Goldsmith, Nancy (Bob) Kipnis, and Susan Levin.
Grandchildren: Tuvia (Hila) Levin, Moshe (Shula) Levin, Malya (Lucas) Druskin, Brian (Annie) Goldsmith, Tracy (Daniel) Lisk, Jeff (Blair) Goldsmith, David Goldsmith (Mike Eichner), Michael (Ashley) Kipnis, Josh (Anna) Kipnis, Noah Kipnis, Daniel Kipnis, Dylan (Alex) Schwaber, Taylor Schwaber.
Great grandchildren: Ori Yosef, Naveh, Ariel, Mayan David, and Yedidya Levin; Aliza, Shaya, and Leora Levin; Adina and Eliana Druskin; Jonah and Sydney Goldsmith; Sadie and Evelynn Lisk; Oliver and Jordan Goldsmith; Eli and Mia Kipnis.
The Funeral was held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 16 at Temple Israel, 4901 Providence Road. Interment followed at the Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Avenue in Charlotte.
