Benjamin Aycock Obituary

Benjamin Barnes Aycock CHARLOTTE Mr. Benjamin Barnes Aycock, 87, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012. He was born January 22, 1925, in Rocky Mount, NC, son of Leslie and Fannie Aycock. Mr. Aycock graduated from Rocky Mount High school in 1943 and enlisted in the US Navy. After receiving radar training at Oklahoma State University, he served as an Electronic Technician's Mate aboard the USS Randolph aircraft carrier in the Pacific operations of World War II. After discharge he went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering at North Carolina State University. Mr. Aycock's career was in Fire Protection Engineering and building code enforcement. He served on many professional committees including the Society of Fire Protection Engineers where he was the Carolinas Chapter President and a member of the Board. He was active on many standards committees of the National Fire Protection Association where he was a Member Emeritus. He was an instructor in Fire Science at Central Piedmont Community College where he was also on the Fire Science Advisory committee. Ben was a member of South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church where he served on many building projects within the church. His joy was woodworking and he shared examples of his projects with family, friends and his church. Mr. Aycock was married in 1952 to Argen Raines Aycock and they have two children, Janet and Bill, who survive him. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Friday December 14, 2012 at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, 8601 Bryant Farms Road in Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church building fund.

I had the great pleasure of working with Ben and without reservation I say he was a kind and gentle soul. I am sorry this world lost a fine man.
I can only imagine how his family and friends will always miss him .
