Benjamin Dawson Heath III
Mr. Heath, age 81, of Charlotte, North Carolina died Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart, Florida. He was born September 21, 1922 in Charlotte to the late B. D. Heath Jr. and Ruth Shelton Heath.
Ben was a graduate of Central High School of Charlotte and attended The Citadel and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He joined the Naval Air Corps in 1941 and served as a Lieutenant Jr. Grade in the Pacific. During his wartime service he married his beloved wife, Mary Louise Hovis. On his return to Charlotte he worked with Heath Motor Co. for many years. In 1956 he was the United States Skeet Shot Champion. He then owned and operated Ben Heath Realty in Charlotte for 20 years where he was known for building beautiful residential homes. He was a long time member of Myers Park Methodist Church. He was also a member of Charlotte Country Club where he was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife of sixty years, Mary Hovis Heath, he is survived by his son, Benjamin D. Heath IV and wife, Jill Ligon Heath of Raleigh, NC,: daughters, Kathryn Shelton Heath and her husband H. Thomas Webb of Charlotte; and Ellen Heath Kinard and husband, James Ernest Kinard, Jr. of Stuart, FL; grandchildren, Anna Taylor Norman, Thomas Heath Norman, Anna Thomas Heath, Patrick Dawson Heath, and Kathryn Heath Kinard. Mr. Heath was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Shelton Heath.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Heath will be held Monday, April 11, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Park Methodist Church. 1501 Queens Rd., Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends in the church narthex following the service.
Memorials Contributions may be sent to Humane Society of Charlotte, North Carolina, 2646 Toomey Ave., Charlotte, NC 28203.
Harry & Bryant Co. will be serving the family of Mr. Heath.
