Beverly Gudger

Beverly Strawn Gudger KANNAPOLIS - Mrs. Gudger, 68, of Kannapolis passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at CMC-NorthEast. She was born October 21, 1944 in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late Clyde Ellis Strawn and the late Ruth Staton Strawn formerly of Union County. She was preceded in death by a brother, Benton Clyde Strawn. She retired from NorthWest Cabarrus High School where she was a librarian for many years. She was a graduate of St. Andrews College, earned a B.S. degree from Meredith College and a master's degree from Appalachain State University. She was an active member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church-North Campus where she was the church librarian. She had a passion for books. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Dr. Joe Brown. Burial will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Salisbury. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 1:30 PM prior at Whitley's. She is survived by her husband, Kent Gudger, her son, Lee B. Readling( Donna Garmon) of Norwood, four step-daughters; Deborah Broom (Mike) of Concord, Michelle Conner (Bryan) of Monroe, Jodi Gudger of Kannapolis, Diane Black (Brad) of Kannapolis, 12 grandchildren; Jordan Lee and Morgan Lee Readling, Amber Nicole Purser, Michael Lee Oxendine, Kelly Marie Gudger, Brandon Kent Broom, Taylor Nicole, Andrew Tyler, Spencer Thomas and Hunter James Conner, Jackson Macrae and Kennedy Reece Black and two nieces, Martha Jane Kerley and Bennie Strawn Bassinger. Memorials may be made to the ALS Foundation "Catfish Hunter " Chapter , 4 N. Blount St., 2nd Floor, Raleigh, NC 27601.
