Cassandra Thompson Obituary

Cassandra Sue
McRorie Thompson
Mrs. Thompson, 56 of Mint Hill, died Wednesday morning at her residence. She was born November 13, 1948 in Robersonville, NC and was the daughter of the late Bernice Roberson McRorie and George Spencer McRorie. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, teacher and friend.
Cassandra was a graduate of Robersonville High School, Meredith College and UNCC, where she earned a Master's degree in Math Education. She loved children, especially teenagers. She was an inspiration to her many former students at Quail Hollow Junior High and Charlotte Catholic High School, for whom she unlocked the mysteries of math and life. She devoted part of her summers to Carolina Cross Connection, leading teenagers in Christian worship and service to others. She loved playing bridge and tennis, going to the beach, and watching silly movies with her daughters. Cassandra had a strong faith in God and love of life, and brought joy to everyone she met. She was caring and giving, and her heart and her home were always open.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, March 25, 2005 at Central United Methodist Church, 6030 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC with the Rev. Rick Fite officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 24, 2005 from 7:00-9:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Dale V. Thompson; daughters, Meredith Virginia Thompson, Cassandra 'Cassie' Anne Thompson, and Amanda Susanne Pollard and her husband William Joseph Pollard; one grandchild, Katherine Elizabeth Pollard, all of Charlotte; and brothers, George Spencer McRorie, Jr. of Asheville, NC and Alonza Roberson McRorie and his wife Barbara of Greenville, NC.
Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Homecare Hospice, 1918 Randolph Road, Suite LL50, Charlotte, NC 28207.

You and your family are in my prayers. I had your mom as a algebra teacher at Charlotte Catholic. She was one of my favorite teachers. She had such a kind heart. She would always talk about her love for her family and playing tennis and bridge! She has made an impact on my life, know that she will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I was Cassandra's Nurse during her stay at Presbyterian Hospital on 5A. I also worked with Meredith when she was a Nurse's Aide on the Unit. It was an honor to know and care for Cassandra. She was always so positive and upbeat throughout her stay. I will always remember her loud bridge tournaments with her friends. Cassandra had a very strong support system and she was very fortunate to have you all in her Life. My Thoughts and Prayers are with you all, Take Care and God Bless You all!

I did not personally know Cassandra, but I feel like I knew her because I was on staff with Suzanne Childress and Meredith was my prayer partner while I was on staff with CCC. It is such a testament of Cassandra's livelihood and faith that she has an impact on other people's lives through the lasting impressions she has made with those she loved. I am praying for you as you seek God's comfort and remember Cassandra's life of praise.

This is written by 2 friends who never knew Cassandra but yet she had an impact on our lives. We met her and her bridge group last summer at the beach and spotted Cassandra in her adorable red hat and we just started talking. Well, we then went to the shop and bought our hats too. We continued to talk throughout the weekend and found out how small this world really is, she had taught Dale's son in math. We enjoyed watching the ladies so loyally set up their bridge tents, and they knew what they were doing too. Cassandra told us how long this group had been together and how fortunate for all of them and Cassandra to have friends like that. She shared with us about her life and family as we shared things too. Dale and I just wanted you to know that when we wear our hats at the beach we will think of Cassandra and we truly did enjoy that weekend at the beach and our brief encounter with such a sweet lady. She is in our hearts and we pray for her family and friends and know that God will sustain you through this dificult time. Your friends...Nancy Bolten and Dale Young

I am so saddened by Cassandra's passing. I was privileged to teach with her and for my daughter to be the recipient of Cassandra's knowledge and spirit while in her classroom. She made such an impact on all. We desperately need people like her - we were the benefactors if we were fortunate enough to be able to soak up her incredible spirit. She will be sorely missed.

My heart goes out to all of you. Mrs. Thompson was a wonderful gift to CCHS. Both my daughters had her and loved her. My youngest daughter Elizabeth was so fond of her. She made a lasting impression on Elizabeth and I know she will always have a special place in her heart for your mom. I have never known anyone to make such an impression on Elizabeth. I hope you find comfort in remembering what a wonderful person she was and how much everyone loved her. Thank you for sharing her with us. Be good to yourselves, that is what she would want. Thank you.
