Chandra Lightner Obituary

Chandra Evans Lightner
Mrs. Lightner, the daughter of Jones Alonzo Belk, Jr. and Linda Evans Belk, was born July 12, 1970 in Charlotte, NC. She went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Carolinas Medical Center.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 9, 2006 at 1:00 PM at Victory Christian Center in Charlotte, NC, with Pastor Robin Gool officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. A visitation will precede the service at 12:00 noon.
Chandra will forever be in the hearts of her husband, Lockee Lightner; three daughters, Kirsten Ratliff, Stephanie Ratliff, and Bobbi Mayfield; two sons, Steven Mayfield II and her precious newborn, Logan Evans Lightner; her grandmother, Grace Rhett; half-sister, Frenchetta Brinkley; step-sister, Robin Jones; step-brothers, Erik Belk and Keith Jones; and aunts, uncles, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Chandra was a beautiful, vibrant, intelligent young lady who had a deep desire to help others. This inspired her to pursue endeavors in the medical field, first entering into physical therapy and finally a career as a registered nurse. She thrust herself into her work, serving employers such as Carolinas Medical Center, Avante, Beverly Healthcare, and others. At the time of her death, Chandra was continuing her education at Winston-Salem State University.
Her lovely smile and generous spirit will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Where do I begin. Chandra was and will forever be a big sister to me. When I heard about her passing I was out done. The news really hurt me being that it was not to long ago when me and my son went to her home to visit her and the family. Chandra took me under her wings as a little sister. What amazed me about Chandra is that I don't know how she managed to hold down 3 to 4 jobs rise her 4 children go to school, go through her up and downs and still have a smile on her face. I had the pleasure to work with Chandra @ Mercy Rehab and Avante. We looked out for each other in so many ways. There are so many and only positive words to explain Chandra. To her four children that I had many chances to meet. May GOD BLESS YOU AND BE WITH YOU as you all continue to grow. To her husband, continue to be strong and take care of Logan. Last but not least her Mother, family and friends that I know, prayer changes things, this I know so well. GOD BLESS. TO Chandra I will always love and miss you, Heaven is so lucky to have you. Rest in Peace.

Chandra, It has been over a month since you went home and I still can not believe you are gone. You are truly missed and will forever be in our hearts. Little Bobbi is a small version of you. I had her this past Saturday and she spoke of you often and told me she wanted to be a nurse like her mommy. We share so many stories and memories of you. We love you very much.

I have very fond memories of Chandra that began as teens growing up. Chandra helped me get a job working with her at Service Merchandise in high school, we had fun back then, we both went on to become nurses and recently spoke of our plans to further our educational preparedness, I remember the last smile I saw on her face at Mercy Hospital, during lunch, she glowed - as she rubbed her belly, smirked, and spoke of her soon to arrive baby, her husband and children. That's what she was about loving people, family and helping others. All who knew you will truly miss you, rest in peace.

In Loving Memory of My Dear Sister, Best Friend and Matron of Honor

Chandra...

You are a beautiful diamond to behold. With your rare, unsurpassed love you radiated the light of Christ and the brilliant cut of God. Like a diamond formed under extreme conditions of high temperature and pressure, you exhibited depth, strength, and tenacity of character. Your life emanated the faith of God and your smile gave comfort and joy as you touched the lives of others, thereby, polishing and creating other diamonds in the rough. Your transparent nature gave forth a remarkable luster as you made it apparent to all who knew you that you were no diamond imitation cluster. The purpose for which God created you in your mother's womb made you an authentic diamond that could only be purchased by Him. When God looked into his beautiful, exquisite diamond, He saw His awesome image and said that "It was good." Then He called you home to be with Him into all eternity. The impact of your life has made you a highly coveted gem that has truly made our lives richer. Although your spirit man is with God, your memory remains within our hearts as we treasure the moments in which you were a part. You will never be forgotten because a true diamond is forever.

All My love,

Tiffany

For anyone that hs ever met Candra, looked in her eyes, spoken to her, or heard her voice knows that the spark of the divine resided in her. My sympathy to the family on their tremendous loss, and praise for the tremendous love they have experienced. I worked with Chandra a few times at Mercy and saw her the day she celebrated the birth of her precious son.

Only God knows why any of our paths cross. Chandra treated everyone like her own family. I am honored to have known her for even a short time. She touched my spirit deeply. And I know she is "home" in His love.

I was blessed to have worked with Chandra at Avante. She had a beautiful smile and always so happy. She often spoke of her children with such joy and she would occasionally bring them to interact with the patients. She really enjoyed her work and the patients loved her. I was always amazed how she managed all her hard work, school, and raising those beautiful children and still had that smile. She was such an inspiration and will be truely missed by all who knew her. I pray that God will comfort her family at this time.

When I last saw Chandra at Mercy Hospital during my first med-surg clinical rotation we spoke about what had happened in our lives since high school. Chandra encouraged me to finish nursing school no matter how tough my instructor appeared and how far away graduation day seemed. Well graduation day is May 11, 2006. Thank you Chandra, those words and smile as always, were right on time.

My supervisor sent an email saying she was going to a homegoing celebration. When she returned she showed me lovely picture of the young woman who had transitioned. I was in total shock to see that it was Chandra and have been in shock ever since. I often wonder what's going on with my old friends and classmates, how everyone's doing; and it just saddens me to hear news like this. But I rejoice too in knowing that she's touched so many lives and was loved by many, including myself. To her family, may God continue to strengthen you all. Rest in peace, Chandra. You're home now.

I worked with Chandra at Avante of Charlotte when she was going to school to become a RN. She was always a hard worker and loved by her patients. However, what I remember the most about her is the beautiful glow that always surrounded her as she talked about her children. No matter what Chandra was going through she always gave the best of herself to her children. Now that I have a child, I will always keep that special piece of Chandra with me and use it in my life.

Chandra, my friend, I love you and I will miss you.

Chandra,

I only had the opportunity to meet you for a short time during some shifts we worked together at different nursing facilities, but how awesome of an impact you made on my life for me to remember you years later. It truly, truly is an honor to have met such an sweet, honest, and encouraging person. I will never ever forget that smile. As I cry, I smile just thinking of you, and your smile and the joy you brought just in the one or two shifts we worked together. You made it your business to know who I was and I thank you for that. Because of that you will live in my heart and thoughts forever. To your family, may the peace of God that surpasses all our understanding guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ. You will truly, truly, truly be missed....

Chandra was truly one of God's Angels. She spread her love by helping others in her professions and had a passion for continuing her education. During a conversation that Chandra and I had a week before she went home to the Lord... she mentioned that her new hobby was "school". She was so confused about which field to pursue next because she wanted to experience them all. I had never met a person with such a devotion towards school. Chandra's passion for education, for her patient's, and most of all for her family will be mounted on a pedestal in my heart forever. God Bless all of you.

It has been a joy and pleasure to know and work with Chandra over the past five years. I first met her at Avante of Charlote where she worked with hundreds of Pt.s as a Physical Tx. Assistant. She was admired and adored by all of her Pt.s. and co-workers; The Pt.'s would work for her when they would not work for anyone else. I also knew her as a Nurse, Mother and as a friend. She needed a clown for a birthday party for Bobbi and asked for my help. Yes, I played the clown. It was fun...Everyday working with Chandra was fun. I spoke to her last Friday morning and she told me about her new son, Logan, and bragged about all of the children. She was so proud of each of her children. If she could have made it an even dozen, she would had had more. I had planned to visit her on Saturday when I got the news than she had transcended.

All of us who have known her mourn her passing but we thank God for the opportunity to have shared time with her. Chandra was a beautiful person, on the inside as well as the outside. She was also a brillant scholar and leaves a legecy for all to admire. I know she loved her husband, Lockee and was so greatful for her Mother and Father. Chandra, WE LOVE YOU, WE BLESS YOU AND WE TRULY APPRECIATE YOU. You have taught us many lessons and shared much love. Peace and Love, Diane Evans-Blake, Speech Pathologist.
