Dear Donna, I thought over the weekend how much you smiled whenever you spoke of your dad. Although I never got to meet him, I feel like I know him from all the stories you've told me of the Sunday night dinners. I remember when you were throwing his 80th birthday party, how excited you were for him and how you hoped no one would spoil the surprise. All your memories of him will hopefully bring you peace. Know that he is in a very special place and best of all he's with your mom. My deepest Sympathy to you and your family. Love Always, Eileen

I was honored and privileged to know Buddy and Alice since I was born. My father served with Buddy in the Merchant Marines in WWII. Shortly prior to his death he spent several days with my father at White Lake, a place dear to both and where they both met their wives. Buddy recently sent my father a letter in which he declared that my father was his best friend. Buddy and Alice were true friends ro my family as well as their children. I will always remember visiting them as a child and riding the homemade go-kart in the back yard. As a retired law enforcement officer I think I know a little about what makes a good public servant. Charlotte was very lucky to have an employee of Buddy Byrum's character among them. His family will always be a part of ours.

Buddy was one of the first firemen I met on my first day of duty 1969 as a rookie fireguy at Firehouse #16. What a nice guy. He was a Lieutenant then. He would bring us vegatables in from his garden and stand at Old Providence and we would have lunch for about 20 cents. My neighbor was Charlie Spain who played baseball on the CPD team against Buddy CFD team. There are some old photos of Buddy at the fire museum 5th and graham old firehouse #4)I liked him very much. Hand Salute to a brother firefighter.
