Charlotte Nicely Colbert
SEABROOK, MD -- Deaconess Colbert, of 9707 Woodland Ave., Seabrook, MD, passed on Friday, September 26th, 2003 at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore, MD.
She was born in White County, GA on December 6, 1940. She leaves to mourn her passing, her devoted husband of 39 years, Deacon Sylvester Colbert of the home; father, Jesse (Gertrude) of Sautee, GA; sisters, Shirley Richardson (Phillip), Sautee, GA, Carol Strickland, Taccoa, GA, and Anna Pharr (Richard), Charlotte, NC; brothers Larry Nicely (Patricia), Clarksville, GA, Kenneth Nicely, Athens, GA, Frederick Pharr (Debbie), Norfolk, VA; a devoted nephew, Aldric Gill, Charlotte, NC; Uncles Holly Gill (Marion), Temple Hills, MD and Roy Wallace (Catherine), Cleveland, OH; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and classmates.
Her Mother, Jessie N. Gill, and Stepfather, Houston Gill, preceded her in death.
Deaconess Colbert became a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in 1971. She served tirelessly in many capacities over the years, Chairperson of the Deaconess Board, President of the Usher Board, President of December Circle, and she also served in the women's choir. She was Educated at Logan High School and Barber-Scotia College, Concord, NC, and was a retired Senior Underwriter for General Electric Mortgage Insurance.
Memorial services were held on October 4th, 2003 at New Bethel Baptist Church, 1739 9th St NW, Washington DC, 20001, Dr. Walter Fauntroy, Pastor, Dr. James Wilson, Assistant Officiated. Homegoing Funeral Service was held on October 7, at First Christian Church, Rev. Fred A. Peeler Jr., Pastor, 158 Rone Street SW, Concord, NC, 28025, where the couple worshiped anytime they were at home. Dr. E. R. Kirkpatrick officiated. Interment was at Rutherford Memorial Park.
Memorials in Sister Colberts name may be sent to either church.

No words can express the sadness that is left in my heart. Such a wonderful Aunt and friend to me and my young family. Always knowing the right thing to say and when to say it. You and mommy always taught me to be myself, be proud of who you are and what you do, and always, always be a "lady". I'll be sure to pass this on to my girls as they come up. So goodbye....for now...Aunt Charlotte. I will see you again someday. Wear your crown and robe and walk around heaven all day. And from time to time, sit at your master's feet and tell the story............of how you made it over. I will never forget you. I love you.

I have to call her my Aunt Charlotte to, not just by marriage but what I felt inside for her. When I was around her she treated me like any of her nieces and she kept it real with me.I love her and I miss her, but we will all be together again one day.

Aunt Charlotte, I thank you for the pink car while sight-seeing when I was but a child. I thank you for teaching me how to use a knife and fork (at the same time). I thank you for all the stories of you and Uncle Sly. I thank you for "Just five more minutes" and all the stories in general. I thank you for being an aunt to me and my children (even though they tended to cheat). I thank you for being my AUNTIE.....and FOREVER you will always be.........MY AUNTIE.---------------KEEP SMILING and doing the CHA CHA SLIDE!....WE LOVE U!!!!
