Chase Sebastian Francis HUBERT - Chase Francis died on May 15, 2016, from a broken neck suffered when he dove into shallow water in a fishing hole in New Bern. He was 20 years old, and while his life was fraught with challenges, nothing could take that smile away. Chase loved to laugh, tell jokes, play video games and listen to music, the louder the better. He loved his family and cared deeply for his mom. He was a loyal friend. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Spring, it would be just like him to put on his ball cap, round up some buddies and head to the local fishing hole. Chase was born on Sept. 21, 1995, and grew up in Charlotte, where he was baptized and confirmed at Myers Park United Methodist Church. He was active in Youth Ministries, and never forgot the two Spring Break mission trips he took to Costa Rica. He was raised by his grandparents, Ross and Guynn Francis. He attended Ardrey Kell High School before moving to eastern North Carolina and graduating from Swansboro High. He was living in Hubert in Onslow County at the time of his death. He is survived by Ross and Guynn Francis of Charlotte, the grandparents who lovingly raised him like their own. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia Francis Moore, and her husband, Fresco, of Hubert; his father, Eddie Dungan, of Jacksonville, NC; three sisters - Jazmin Renee Francis of Charlotte, Rachel Lynn Henderson of Hubert and Maranda Dutcher of Jacksonville. His three-year-old nephew, J'Markius L'anelle Mills Jr. (Rachel's son), was the light of his life. He is also survived by an uncle, Scott Francis, of Charlotte, and several other relatives. Among his friends, Joseph Fliegel Jr. of New Bern was with Chase that day at the fishing hole and did his best to save him. A service to celebrate Chase's life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road. Visitation follows at the church. A gift in his memory can be made to Costa Rica missions at Myers Park United Methodist. Checks can be made out to the church with Costa Rica in the memo line and mailed to 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207. A gift can also be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place, Suite 200, Landover, MD 20785. Chase dealt as best he could with epilepsy in a life that ended far too soon.
