Chet Snow Obituary

Chet Snow, Jr.
Chester W. Snow III, longtime Charlotte realtor, passed away peacefully in his home among his family on Saturday, March 20, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Chet is survived by his son Brandon Snow and his dog Maggie, parents, Chet Snow Sr. and Mary Snow, brothers Vance Snow and Doran Snow, sisters Melanie Snow, Tara Wilson, and Michel Snow Lapalombella. Chet is predeceased by his mother, Mary Lou Brown. 'Uncle Chet' will also be missed by many loving nieces and nephews.
Chet was born October 4, 1950 in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in Athens, Georgia. He moved to Charlotte at the age of 17 to join his father and mother at Chet Snow Realtors. Upon their retirement in 1986, he established Snow & Associates Realtors.
Chet graduated from UNC-Charlotte in Business Administration in 1972 and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He faithfully served the fraternity in several advisory capacities after his graduation and remained true friends and brothers with many. Chet also served on the Center for Real Estate Advisory Board at UNC-Charlotte. He was the youngest recipient of the Realtor of the Year in Charlotte, in 1985. He was also a past president of the Charlotte Board of Realtors, (1983). Chet chaired numerous committees at the Charlotte Board of Realtors as well as a director of the N.C. Association of Realtors.
Chet's passions were his family, friends and animals. Chet never met a stranger and will be missed by his uncountable legion of friends. Chet touched many lives in profound ways. His love, humor, and loyalty defined his character. In addition, he WAS a character, truly the life of any gathering.
'There is no higher inspiration for any man than to be a good man, a good citizen, and a good, son, brother, father.' Chet was all of these.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude for the multitudes of people who reached out to Chet and his family throughout his illness. Your care, love and friendship have been beyond words.
The visitation will be held at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 beginning at 12:30 p.m. with the celebration of Chet's life immediately following at 3:00. Pastor Emeritus Kenneth Craig, assisted by Dr. Larry Mitchell, will conduct the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Pallative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204, or to the charity of choice.

My heart aches for my big brother today. He was everyone´s friend but a brother like no other to me. He was gruff and boisterous and picked on me relentlessly but would have walked through fires to help me and anyone he loved. I love you Chet. You are missed!

I think of my friend quite often. There were none like him, yet he was a kindred spirit to so many. We shared a lot of great times, broke a few molds and blazed a few new paths together. A brother and a friend for eternity. I love the "Snowman."

Chet Jr "took me in" when I first got involved in the Realtor Association. I saw him as one of the in crowd and he quickly made me feel a part of it too. I'll forever picture him @ the pool party, smiling and making people feel special. What a gift. Yup, Chet, we will miss you, we are sad but we also are thankful you were in our lives...

I first met Chet in the late 70's at a pig pickin' and can still see him dancing around in his apron. What a wonderful man... full of love and laughter, and such an inspiration to so many people, personally and professionally, highly respected in the real estate industry. "Some people come into our lives and quickly go, move our soul to dance, leave footprints in our hearts, and we are never the same." Rest in peace, my friend.

It is so hard to believe that Chet has left us. The last 2 years have been such a battle for him as well as you. You are in my thoughts and prayers and please do no hesitate to call me if you need anything. We can all rest better knowing that he is in a much better place with no pain and can smile and cut up like the Chet we all knew and loved so much. Chet was a brother by choice. The times we shared are among my cherished memories. A champion of Professional Standards in our industry, Chet was always available to help those with questions and to teach those that wanted or needed to learn. Forever in my heart, his sense of humor will be the smile I will always remember.

Brandon and family,

I am so saddened by this news. Your father was one of my BEST friends in college and I can't imagine this world without his smile. He even served on the cheerleading squad with me! Even long after graduations and marriages, he continued to stop by my mother's house to visit and send regards to me and my husband. That's the kind of friend he was to all! Truly, a part of the Charlotte died along with him and it will NEVER be the same. Rest in Peace, Sweet Friend!
