Click Baldwin Obituary

Click Baldwin
1954 - 2008
GASTONIA -- Mr. Baldwin, 54, owner of Carolina Harley-Davidson for 20 years, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, MT, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born in Salisbury, NC, the son of Lynn Baldwin and the late Ernest Baldwin, and raised in Belmont, NC. He is survived by his wife, Diane McCuen Baldwin of the home; daughter, Chelsea Baldwin of the home; mother, Lynn Baldwin of Belmont and brother, Cricket Baldwin of Mt Holly. In addition to his father, a sister, Nancy Lynn Baldwin, preceded him in death.
Prior to graduating from South Point High School in Belmont, Click's recreations of old discarded bicycles proved to be his original canvas for future masterpieces of steel and chrome. Click was envied by his peers as he proudly road their revitalized waste through the center of town. His escorted motorcade return could not have been more poignant.
Click belonged to the church of motorcycle brotherhood. Some might say he was an accomplished business man, due to the shroud of awards over the years. Others might say he was a visionary for his colorful insight and innate ability to dream big and execute more. Many will say he was a generous and committed philanthropist; after all he donated and helped raise thousands for chronically ill children. Children and humbled parents may have called him Santa, for he delivered the toys. Others might chat how he was the life of the party, immediately following with 'he stole the show'.
Click was the center of controlled chaos, at any given moment of the day. His journeys across the globe, made him aware of just how small we are but how we still were all connected. There was not a person he met that if they knew him for more than fifteen minutes, had a fond memory. People lived vicariously through him and his stories, and he couldn't wait to share. He was blessed to live each day to the fullest, and in fact that was his mantra. Click never did two things at once, as he knew it would mean to do neither. He was engaged in your conversations for no personal gain, but if he had chosen could beat any politician for he was authentic. He too was a receiver. Click wanted and enjoyed those around him, and felt the pain and sorrows; joy and happiness of those he loved.
Click rode motorcycles and many of them. He was known for pranks on those long rides and was instrumental for lifting those tired spirits. His special language and quick wit left you with no other recourse than to laugh and smile. Click was gift to us all, he will be missed, but he will not be forgotten.
'Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away'. This thought for the day captures Click's personal relationship with his family and close friends. Click maximized every moment of time with them and it is evident he practiced the philosophy of being there when it mattered most. Click was a cherished son and a close, loving brother. He traveled far and often; more often with those few select friends he called 'The Band' but at the end of the day, his foundation, inspiration and strength was his wife, Diane and daughter, Chelsea.
Click was born to ride and died doing what he loved. Click would not want anyone to mourn, he'd ask us all to celebrate life, toast the Crown and keep telling the stories to make people laugh. He'd say be kind to your brother, give to those who need, and be sure to do right because when it's your time to go, it's just your time.
Click would say 'that's all folks', but we know different -- he was cool; he was the one and only 'Clicker', and by far 'Unlike Any Other'!
We are grateful that God sent him to inspire us all. In his own unique way, Click was a shepherd of God watching over His flock. Click is smiling upon us and there is no doubt Heaven is a more colorful place.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. at First Assembly of God, 777 South Myrtle School Road, Gastonia, NC. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Calvary Church, 5801 Pineville-Matthews Road, Charlotte, NC, Kenny Crosswhite officiating.
In lieu of flowers, A 'Brick for Click' can be purchased at Carolina Harley-Davidson after August 1st, or donations may be made to Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adam's Way, Randleman, NC 27317.
Email condolences to [email protected] or sign guest book at www.mem.com.

Diane and Chelsea,
I was on the internet this morning and came across an article about Click's accident last year. I am so sorry for your loss and appoligize for my late condolences. You may not recognize my name, but I am "Harley the Clown" from the 1999 and 2000 charity ride. I am sure that Click has been missed over the last 10 months because he was loved by so many. I stopped and saw click last April on my way home from Augusta. Click is no doubt riding on the highway in the sky with his face in the wind. Click - Until we meet again ride long and often. Diane, Chelsea and Family:
I was so sorry to hear of your loss. As so many people have written, Click was one of a kind and made a lasting impression on everyone that he met. (Diane, we met on Kyle's 1999 Ride. . .I was on the Honda Goldwing that lit your way when your headlight went out in Arizona.)
Although your time together was far to short, Click will always be in your heart and mind. My prayer is that you draw strength and comfort from your Heavenly Father.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. - Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
God Bless You All.

I am writing this with a heavy heart. I have been out of the loop for some time and did not hear of this "(lack of the right word)" until yesterday listening to John Boy and Billy, which I don't get a chance to listen to often. I purchased my 1st bike from Click in 1999. Like everyone, he made an instant and indelible mark on me. He came across as the nicest most helpful and giving person. In my years I have found that the people you have to watch out for the most fall in this catagory. Yet time and time again, over the years, he continued to live up to this 1st impression. It was just his genuine being. I know that there are many folks hurting.

I want to end this with: the last time I saw Click which was at the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally several years ago. I saw him at the main site area and I could tell that he was very busy managing all of the Carolina H-D sponsored events for that year. I still wanted to just say a quick hello. When he saw me he stopped immediately and looked solidly my eyes and caught up with what (I) was doing. He made me feel like the most important person in the world. When we were finished he said, "well I gotta go" and off he ran 'cause I could see he really was busy. This is one of the traits that made him so special to so many people. When I had his attention he gave it all to (me).

You will be missed by so many brother. Heaven is a better place. I will see you then.

Click and Diane never have and never will meet a stranger. "I shall not die of a cold. I shall die of having lived. Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity."
Thank you for living life to the fullest.. Click never worked a day in his life, he loved what he did!!!
May God be with you and your family always, by knowing you, each of us are truly blessed!

To the Baldwin Family,
My heart and deepest sympathy go out to you and your friends for this great loss. I met Click at the Greenbrier in WV on July 16th while he and the group were passing through during their charity ride. I approached Kyle and asked if I could purchase some Crown Royal drinks for him and his great group of friends. I work for the brand and thought it was the least I could do for all of them that night. Kyle then introduced me to Click, whom as I would come to learn, was the biggest Crown Royal fan out there. I then became known as the Crown Royal Girl for the night as Click introduced me to everyone. Although I only knew Click for a short while, he definitely left a lasting impression. He is truly "Unlike Any Other" as I learned more about him from a conversation with his friend, Randy, when I learned about Click's passing. I feel honored to have met such a charismatic and wonderful person. His memory will live on forever in you, his family, and all of his great friends. And every time I lift a glass of Crown Royal, I too, will say a special "Cheers" to a man who truly was "Unlike Any Other".
With Sincere Condolences,
Liliana "The Crown Royal Girl"

It’s with our deepest condolences we are writing and our prayers now go out to Diane and Chelsea. Click for us was one of those people who brightened our ride simply with his mischievous boyhood wonder i.e. Elvis suit, putting with a toilet brush and numerous other humorous stories. We are better people and enriched simply because of our brief encounter during twelve days in 2006. He will be missed but his passion for life and making it enjoyable will always ride with us. God Speed.

To the Baldwin family,
I have been keeping up with your tragic loss via the internet from Ireland, and speaking to a few friends state side.
I only met Click afew times, at the opening of the new store(Diane, I did meet you very briefly) and when Click was at the beach, and in Daytona drinking a beer with Mickey/Rocky. They shared many a story of what they got upto growing up in Belmont.Had me crying from laughing. I know that they will miss him along with many others. He did alot for society and was always in great spirits. I'm sorry that I was not able to attend the funeral, but reading about it, it sounded beautiful and seems like Click went with style. The last time I saw him was at Mickeys 50th birthday, and he was styling in a lovely jacket that you, Diane, had bought him along with the cowboy hat and red shoes. He had driven 4 hours just to be at the surprise party, and left soon after. Just another testament to his charachter. May God Bless You all and I hope your pain will ease with time. Chelsea, I do know one thing. Your Dad was famous to alot of people, never to himself, but you & your mum were the apple of his eye, and he would be proud of you both

I though Kyle’s song was so true. Morri’s comments were a comfort. Chelsea’s comment about not knowing her father was famous, shows what kind of man Click was. Diane, it's been years since I've even seen you or Click, but it's no surprise to me he was so loved. I remember High School, it didn't matter if you were popular or not, it just didn't matter if nobody else knew your name, Click treated everybody the same, and I have never meant that more about anybody. He was just that way, he had that bad boy aura but a kind, gentle and compassionate heart. May God give you the peace to go on. I know it will be so hard, Yall have been together forever and that just doesn't happen much anymore. I did learn when I lost my only sister that wonderful memories can help through the hard times and from all the pictures, I know you guys shared countless wonderful memories. We are sorry for your loss..We have known Click since the days at the old shop over on Franklin..both our HD's came from there...will never forget he took off on that big sporty to check it out before we bought it and stayed gone a bit too long...we were all standing around looking at each other and he come roaring back into the lot, pulling off his lid and grinning; he had been stopped and had a speeding ticket; also remember when he shaved his head for the KP charity ride few years back..you just didnt walk in there and leave without him speaking to you if he was there...everyone knew Click...all you had to say was his name and people knew exactly who you were talking about. He will be missed very much.

I am a high school classmate of Click still living in Belmont, NC. I was in attendance earlier today at the funeral and was totally in awe of the entire service. I was especially blown away by Kyle Petty’s tribute song that he wrote and performed in Click’s memory. Just sitting there thinking who Kyle Petty is, along with his famous father and grandfather made it totally incredible to be singing those words about Click; just a small town Belmont boy who did “good” in life. I (along with all the other friends in our area) am very appreciative of what Kyle did today. The words and the music meant so much to everyone in attendance. I hope this song was recorded or will be re-recorded. I know that everyone who knew Click would love to have a copy and would be willing to purchase it, possibly towards a donation to the Victory Junction Gang Camp.

I do not know how to contact Kyle directly so I am writing this in hopes it will be passed along to him. Click was quite a unique individual but he never lost his Belmont small town roots. We really appreciate Kyle’s tribute to our local hero and friend that Click was to us. Thank you for being a very important and meaningful part of his life that we have all been able to share in one respect or another.

Today we ride the long journey to the final resting place for our friend and brother Click Baldwin. Everyone who know Click will alway remember him for the great life he had and the times we all got to spend with him. Click died doing what he loved and that is The Ride This is a peom that would be must fitting for us all. Today I send it out with a heavy heart to you Click. RIP my brother until we meet again.

The Ride

So many days have started by looking up to the sky.

Just to see what the weather had in store for our ride.

We have rode in the sun, the wind and the rain as we shared the good times and cried together through the pain.

We spent many hours and days, and way to many late nights, enjoying our friends and taking in all the sights.

We traveled many miles on the open road with you by our side.

Wheels turning, motors screaming and the throttles opened wide.

We lived every minute of our lives as if it was our last and never looked back with any regit to our past.

As in life and in death, we never left your side.

We want you to know that we were always there for The RIDE.

Dearest Diane, Chelsea, Lynn, Cricket, and Carolina H-D Dealership family,

Click Baldwin:
"A LEGEND IN HIS OWN TIME"

We hadn't been in the H-D Dealership for quite a while since business trips to Australia, etc. kept us busy, and we had just returned home to Gastonia from our mountain home when a friend called to tell us about Click's accident. This set us off in a series of shock waves which jolted our hearts and the tears just started to flow like rain. We were in a state of disbelief, and tried to remember when was the last time we had seen Click. It was back in February when Click was commenting on a pink Harley jacket and chaps Ray was buying for my birthday present. He kidded Ray that he might have to name the Harley Ladies Motorclothes department after me since I was always buying so many outfits from there (much to Ray's dismay and a hearty laugh).

Since the short time that we met Click at the Dealership, he made us feel as if we had known him for years. He always greeted us with a big smile, a hug, and "how ya'll doin' ". He was always interested in everyone's well being, and if they needed something, he was interested in how he could help them obtain it. We knew that he was someone special....special in so many ways, but noticebly because he treated all of his customers and employees the same way....with honesty, sincerety and respect, and all of his employees (dealership family) admired and respected him as well. He was a Harley rider who was everyone's "hero" and surely a "legend in his own time" always reaching out to others who were less fortunate than he.

In closing, our arms reach out to you in love, our hearts lift you up in our daily prayers, and may God continue to strengthen you day by day, as only He can. We miss Click, but we will all see him again one day!

We love you all,
Jackie & Ray Chambers

Diane: I lost track of you and Click after moving to Myrtle Beach, but never forgot you. Click was an amazing guy. I kept in touch through Dr. Yarboro who though the world of Click. Doc called me and told he about Click and I felt like I had lost a close friend. There is nothing I can say that hasn't been said, just that the world is a better place because of Click.

Diane, Lynn, Cricket & Chelsea; my heart still breaks for your loss and what you must be going through. I was among the 1,000s at Click's visitation last night and was unsure as to what to say. I've known Click through my family for years but never close personally as some have. Immediately upon approaching I felt the love of your family and the strength and heart that I knew Click also possessed. Being a stranger among the many I'm sure you encountered I felt as though I was the only one in the room at the time; which is one of the special qualities that most knew about Click.
After I was home I realized what I wish I had said most: Thank you. Thank you for allowing me, the community and those that were touched in one way or another to show our respect. I thought how tough it must be to go through that and to greet so many people and endure so much from so many; and yet, there was so much love and so much heart. Thank you for your strength and love and I hope that you have found some comfort in the love and strength that everyone has in their heart for Click and your family.
