Constance Keffer Obituary

Constance Overbaugh Keffer "Connie" CHARLOTTE - Constance Overbaugh Keffer passed away on Sunday June 1, 2014, at the age of 80. She is the daughter of Clarence and Helen Overbaugh of McSherrystown, Pennsylvania. Connie is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard W. Keffer Jr. She will be lovingly missed by her five children, Richard W. Keffer, III (Hollie), of Fernandina Beach, Fl, Ann Pipes-Flanigan, (Robert) of Boone, NC, Karen Keffer Baucom (Michael) of Weddington, NC, Michael J. Keffer (Allyson) of Aventon, NC and James L. Keffer (Sandra) of Charlotte, NC. She is survived by thirteen grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, and one on the way. She is also survived by six of her eight sisters and two of her six brothers. The family wants to start by giving a special thanks to her caregivers of the last year. Beth, Comfort, Tonia, Milka, Ena, CeeCee and Aneita all provided constant love and care. To Dr. Jeff Rose and the team at Carolinas Medical Center, we will always be grateful. Dr. Rose - a faithful friend is a sturdy shelter - he who finds one finds a treasure. You are amazing. Connie was many things - a faithful wife, a loving mother, a doting grandmother and a friend to many. Her faith was her foundation. For 50 years, she attended daily mass and never wavered from her faith in God. We are confident they are together. Grandcy, as she was commonly known, wasn't one to mince words. She had opinions and stood by them. With a great wit and sense of humor, she delighted those around her, especially her family. She wanted little and gave much. A highlight in her life was a day spent with Mother Teresa. They both possessed a servant's heart and how fitting they were blessed to meet. Her legacy will carry on. We will celebrate the holidays with sand tarts and make red beet eggs. There is a good dose of her spirit in many and it will live on in her honor. Passing away on Ascension Sunday could be a coincidence, or maybe not. May her faith propel us all. A rosary will be said in her honor Wednesday evening at St Gabriel Catholic Church beginning at 5:30 pm followed by visitation from 6-8 PM and a funeral Mass on Thursday morning at 10:00 AM. Additionally, there will be a funeral Mass at Annunciation Church, McSherrystown PA, on Friday at 10:00 AM after which she will be laid to rest. Her memorial request was very specific - your prayers. How fitting. In lieu of flowers, please consider support for (Mother Teresa House - Missionaries of Charity) 1625 Glenn St., Charlotte, NC 28205 or MiraVia (Room at The Inn) PO Box 11499, Charlotte, NC 28220. It brings me great peace to know that now, at this time, my mom (Donna Mundt) and her dear friend Connie are having the biggest time in Heaven together! It helps just a bit to know that they are together and enjoying each other's company once again.

Just know I am thinking about y'all and everyone is in my prayers. If there is anything I can do please let me know. The Keffer family was here for me during Bramdon's wreck and the passing of Eddie and I will be for y'all. Connie was a wonderful person and always thought the world of her. She will be greatly missed. My love goes out to the entire Keffer family. I do love y'all and am so sorry for your loss. You were blessed to have her as a wife, mother, and grandmother. The community was blessed by her too.

I was shocked to hear the news of Connie's passing and very saddened. I loved her and feel terrible that I haven't been in touch with her for so long. I thought about her often but didn't realize that she had been so ill and am very upset with myself for being "so busy" as to not stay in touch. What a great lady. I'm sure she's with our Lord and I hope she'll put in a good word for me in heaven. She will be so missed. She was definitely one of a kind.

Aunt Connie will be greatly missed! I will cherish the memories that I was so blessed to have with her when I was afforded the opportunity to visit her in Amelia Island last year. I will hold dear to my heart that beautiful smile and the twinkle in her lovely eyes. Her kindness, thoughtfulness and loving spirit has touched my heart and will never be forgotten. My deepest sympathy Uncle Rich and family.

To the Dick Keffer Family - The world has lost a bright light in this wife, mother, and friend to many. She is surely united with the saints and her creator in heaven, and will continue to inspire and light up the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

With love and prayers to the Keffer Family:

Connie was a very dear friend of Sister Mary de Montfort, a Belmont Sister of Mercy who died a few years ago. I believe that Sister was there waiting for Connie - so she could show her around! A rosary was probably part of the greeting as it was a devotion loved by each of them. They are both enjoying the presence of God - in whose presence they each lived.

I was lucky enough to live next to Connie for the past 9 years. She was a wonderful person. Although I didn't get to see enough of her due to both of our busy lives, I find myself full of not only sadness, but regret with her passing. So many times I thought to go sit with her and pick her brain about being a mother (of 5 who clearly adored her!)and a wife of almost 50 years. I know there is so much she could have taught me. I also wanted to ask her about her unwavering Faith. Let it be a lesson to us all, not to wait to go sit with a neighbor or friend as you never know when they will be gone and it's too late. But she did teach me to be a good neighbor and to be kind, to give back. I will remember her fondly forever and miss her.

Aunt Connie was a ray of sunshine every time I laid eyes on her. Her smile was as warm as her hugs. I have clear memories of her sharing her opinions whether others agreed or not. Kudos to you for claiming your stance, Aunt Connie. May the strength of your faith and the loving arms of Jesus surround you during this time of sorrow. Aunt Connie & my mom are singing and laughing in heaven. You are loved and missed.

Aunt Connie was a bright light and inspiration to so many. Her kind smile and gentle ways will always be remembered. She is and always will be one of the amazing greats that do so much for others around them. She will be deeply missed. My deepest sympathy is with all of the family. On the day she died, this amazing double rainbow was a sign of her and my dear Mother reuniting amongst the ranks of angels. There was no rain this day. Her loving memory will always have its special mark on my heart. Sincere condolences.
