Cora Inez Staton Martin
STATESVILLE -- Ms. Martin, age 87, of The Gardens of Statesville, formerly of E. Lackey Farm Rd., Stony Point, passed away Monday, November 21, 2005 at The Gardens of Statesville. She was born in Union County on June 3, 1918, daughter of the late Hezekiah Staton and Rosa Staton. Mrs. Martin was a realtor, housewife, member of Eastern Star and received a 50 year service pin, member of United Methodist Women, member of Pisgah United Methodist Church and a member of VFW womens auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Martin, granddaughter, Elizabeth Diane Johnson, son-in-law, Bob Helton, two brothers, Nev and Ben Staton, three sisters, Ruth Carpenter, Virginia Attaway and Rose Osborne, two half brothers and four half sisters.
She is survived by one son, C.B. Martin, Jr. and wife, Vickie of Charlotte, two daughters, Winfred Martin Helton of Charlotte and Connie Martin Johnson and husband, Gurney of Winston Salem. Five grandchildren, Eric Lawrence and wife, Dr. Linda Lawrence, Christine Bannerman and husband, John, Billy Johsnon and wife, Marjorie, Amanda mae and husband, Damon, Michael Johsnona dn wife, Janet, two step grandsons, Brian Spears and wife, Mary and Brent Spears and wife, Kristie; one great-grandson, Charlie Lawrence, five great granddaughters, Sarah Lawrence, Brooke Spears, Cora Mae, Emily Bannerman and Gracie Spears.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Pisgah United Methodist Church. The Rev. Garry Revels will officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home and at other times will e at their respective homes.
