Cornell Fuller Obituary

Col. Cornell Fuller CHARLOTTE - Cornell Fuller was born April 20, 1942, in Laurens County, South Carolina, to Daisy W. Fuller and the late Wakefield Fuller. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, August 21, 2013, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, after losing his heroic battle with cancer. Affectionately called "Con" or "Cornell" by his family, Cornell was good and supportive to his family and those he met. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children. Cornell was a graduate of West Charlotte Senior High School (Class of 1960) and North Carolina A & T State University (Class of 1964). After graduating from A & T he entered the United States Army in 1964 as a commissioned officer with the rank of 2nd Lt. He served approximately 26 years in the Army, elevating to the rank of Colonel before retirement. At the time of his death he lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he'd lived for the last 29 years. Cornell is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Scarborough Fuller; three daughters, Dr. Claudette Latonya Fuller-Su (Dr. Haua Su) of Pennsylvania, Kolette C. Atamanchuck (Mike) of Illinois, and Shara Fuller of Virginia Beach; one son, Sheridan Wakefield Fuller of Virginia Beach; mother, Daisy Fuller of Charlotte; brother James Fuller (Carolyn) and sister Mary F. Weathers (James) of Charlotte; mother-in-law, Thelma Scarborough of Virginia Beach; brother-in-law, Gregg Scarborough; former wife and friend, Claudette Harris Fuller of Virginia Beach, formerly of Charlotte (WCSHS Class 1960). Additional survivors include one grandson and several nephews, nieces, cousins and other family and friends. Cornell is predeceased by his father Wakefield (2004) and brother George (2005, WCSHS Class of 1958). Funeral Service for Cornell will be in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Monday, 8/26/13, with final rest at Albert G. Horton Veteran Cemetery Suffolk, Virginia. The family of Cornell would like to thank each and everyone for the many kind deeds shown during his illness and death. May God continue to bless you!

COL Fuller was my first battalion commander and commissioned me as a 2LT into the Army. I will always remember his leadership and the guidance given in his deep calm voice. He was a lasting inspiration to this and many other young Soldiers.

Col. Fuller was my former commanding officer. He was a terrific man, and supported my efforts to go to officer candidate school. I was very proud to have such a distinguished officer present me with my first Army Commendation Medal. My condolences to his family and friends

On behalf of the Family of the late Capt Harold A Rolle fellow Vietnam Vet, your husband will be sorely missed. He was one of the kindest neighbors, and helped mentor my two children. I realized something had happened when he was not out there in the yard after his last camping trip. He no longer has to suffer and now he can find eternal peace.

Oh my God...where do I start ? I met Mr. Fuller as I was a member of Tallwood HS custodian staff. He and I started speaking to one another then after a while just started talking about everything from my family to life itself each and everytime we saw each other. He was like a father to me and inspired me to inspire my daughter and as well as myself. I will always remember he told me "quote it was my responsibility to keep a roof over my daughter head, food on the table, clothes on her back and it was her responsibility to go to school and learn". She knows that quote by memory. He explained to me that his son hadn't never miss s day of school and that inspiration alone my daughter hasn't never miss a day of school so far either and now she's a junior in HS. I will truly miss Mr. Fuller and I will truly miss his words of advice and that smile he always had. I will always remember the last basketball game that he and I spoke at. May God be with the entire Fuller family !
