Daniel Foster Obituary

Daniel Max Foster, Jr.

April 11, 1952 - September 5, 2024

Charlotte, North Carolina - Daniel Max Foster Jr., 72, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Max was born at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, IL on April 11, 1952. He was the son of Daniel Max Foster and Judith Beach Foster and was raised in Greenville, SC along with his brother Beach.

Max was a proud graduate of Greenville High School and Clemson University. After Clemson, Max moved to Charlotte where he worked as a Sales Rep in the Water and Wastewater Equipment business, which he loved, and eventually became a founding partner at Premier Water. He was a devoted family man to his wife Mary of 27 years, and children Daniel, Amanda, and Corbett. He loved the big moments with his children and grandchildren, such as travel and holidays, but was equally happy socializing on the sidelines of multiple games a week. Sometimes he'd even catch some of the action on the field as he made his rounds through the many people he was bound to know. Rarely was he seen at a game, or on a walk, without one of his beloved dogs.

Max was a devoted member at Myers Park Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon for many years and loved playing bass guitar in the church's Celebrate band. He was also a regular in his Friday morning men's Bible study group which made a huge impact on his life. Max's love for music was a cornerstone in his life and extended to jam sessions and a garage band with his friends. Occasionally his band would book well attended gigs at the Visulite and Common Market, playing classic rock and jam tunes for worthy causes.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Foster; son, Daniel (Megan); daughters, Amanda Garvey (Kelly) and Corbett, and grandchildren, Luke and Anna Foster, Cooper and Spencer Sciotto, and Sarah and Finn Garvey.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service in Oxford Hall. The service will be livestreamed at: https://myersparkpres.org/live/ for those unable to attend in person.

Memorials can be made to Myers Park Presbyterian, 2501 Oxford Place, Charlotte, NC 28207 (https://www.shelbygiving.com/App/Form/64126737-40d5-471c-8488-62c0088abd47) or A Roof Above, PO Box 31335, Charlotte, NC 28231 (https://www.roofabove.org/donate/)

I loved spending time with Max and hearing awesome Clemson stories.
He knew my wife's Uncle Joe Anderson, starting QB for Clemson in the 1960s.
We put it together one day at MPCC playing golf about 10 years ago and were buddies ever since. I loved him and he loved me. See you when I get there dear friend.

I think the memory of Max that sticks with me the most is when we were finishing up a work meeting one time years ago, and he said to me, "I'm grateful for your friendship." Men do not talk that way anymore, and we are the worse for it. Max showed people Jesus by helping them feel seen, known, and loved. Hopefully his example in that can be one for us men to follow going forward. I am grateful for your friendship too, buddy, and I am looking forward to seeing you again one day. I have been praying for your family during this time.

Max was one of a kind and one of the best people I knew. He was always so thoughtful and generous and he will be missed terribly. His love for family, friends, faith, music and all things Clemson was infectious. So many times he shared that he was praying for my daughter when she was going through such a difficult time. I am forever grateful that he was a friend. Prayers for May, Corbin, and the entire family for peace and comfort.

Beach called me yesterday. I send his family my prayers during this difficult time. Max and his family were neighbors and close friends. I have many wonderful memories of knowing him as a young boy.
