David Hodges Obituary

David Hodges
'Jedi'
BURLINGTON -- David 'Jedi' Hodges, 16, peacefully passed from this earth on January 20, 2012 at Duke University Hospital after a courageous battle with an undiagnosed illness, surrounded by his family. Born in Asheville on April 15, 1995, he was a one of a kind soul with a contagious and continuous smile upon his face. David was a genuinely happy kid that loved every minute of life. He had never met a stranger and openly offered his friendship to everyone he met. He was a true water baby, whether it was Lake Norman or the Atlantic Ocean, he enjoyed all water sports. Skateboarding, music, technology, his dogs and being a big brother also brought him great joy. David was a curious boy always eager to try something adventurous and looking for the next big thing, a true trendsetter.
David loved belonging to a community. In the last year he joined the Catholic Church and was heavily active in the youth group at Blessed Sacrament. He also became a member of the football and lacrosse teams at Eastern Alamance High School where he loved the social aspect of education. These groups served as outlets for David's light to shine and make an everlasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to have met him.
David was survived by Godparents and Guardians- Aunt Lisa and Uncle Ben Marinis, parents, Clark and Heather Hodges, mother Davina Brendle, little brothers Hatten and Liam Hodges, paternal grandmother- Nancye 'Grandma' Hodges, maternal grandmother, Leslie 'My Nana' Brendle, Aunt Lora Lynn 'LL' Bridges and Uncle Michael Frisbee. Preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Hatten 'Papa' Hodges and maternal grandfather and his namesake David Brendle.
The family will welcome visitors from 4-8 pm on Thursday, January 26, at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington. A funeral mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 3pm on Friday. Memorials can be made to David Hodges at any Wells Fargo Bank.

Dear Family,
David has been a friend of our family's for some time now. We are blessed to have known him and are so saddened to hear this news. David has spent many hours with my son, Colt, here in my home on Nettles Island. He was pretty good at keeping his finger on that doorbell! He always greeted me with a big smile and a big hug. We will miss him so much!! You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Family,
Debra Swilling Burleson is a friend of mine. Went on FB Help The Jedi, was drawn in by this incredible young man. He won the hard fight, with God, no longer sufering, no more pain, inside gates of Heaven, walking streets of Gold, looking at the beautiful Mansions, seeing the River Of Life, listening to the Beautiful Music and seeing all of those who passed before him. He was much to young to pass, focus on that smile, light he shown in your hearts and the wonderful memories you have of him. Thru the coming weeks I pray God will you give you all peace/comfort.

I just found out about David from the posting at the library about the walk tomorrow. I didn't know him or your family but I am unbelievably sorry for your loss. I just hugged my daughter extra right and told her about a true Jedi Warrior named David.

Davina, Leslie, Lisa and Ben,

We were saddned to hear the news of David's passing this day through a railroad engineer's wife. May you find comfort in the beautiful memories you have of his short life here on this earth. From reading his obituary here in the Asheville Times, it sounded as if he is now residing with his heavenly father and that he fought a courageous battle with his illness.

The beautiful picture of him, Lisa and Ben on our recent Christmas Card said it all: How happy he was with the great big smile on his face and arm wrapped around Ben.

We will keep all of you close in our hearts with much prayer.

With our love and heartfelt sympathy,

Ray and Janie Wallace and family

Lisa, Ben and family...my heart breaks for your loss. David's smile could move the earth and now he lights the heavens. He was much loved and he loved much in return. May the light of "Our" Jedi always remind us all of the force that shined within him.

Lisa, Ben and Family~May God comfort you all in the days to come. Through you I have learned that you didn't have to 'know' David on a personal level to 'REALLY KNOW' him! Jedi, you touched our hearts and brought us together as a community of believers and the largest prayer/support groups I have ever been a part of. You will forever be the 'Jedi Warrior'
