David Moore Obituary

Dr. David Huddler Moore CHARLOTTE - Dr. David Huddler Moore, 63, of Charlotte, NC passed away on September 3, 2013, after a five year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. David was born April 15, 1950 in Newark, OH and grew up in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated from North Central High School of Indianapolis in 1968 where he ran track, holding the school record in the 440M. David attended Duke University, graduating in 1972 with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. After college he returned to Indianapolis to attend medical school at the University of Indiana, during which time he met Ann. David and Ann were married in Indianapolis in 1976 before moving to St. Louis, MO where David completed his pediatric residency and subsequent fellowship in pediatric infectious disease at St. Louis Children's Hospital of Washington University. In 1980 David moved his family to Charlotte, NC where he began his pediatric practice with the Nalle Clinic. David worked at the Nalle Clinic for 20 years before moving on to the CMC Physicians Network where he worked until his retirement in 2009. During his career, David had numerous achievements including, being the first pediatric infectious disease specialist in Charlotte, acting as Chairman of Pediatrics at Carolinas Medical Center multiple times and teaching residents and medical students at CMC and Levine Children's Hospital as an Adjunct Professor for the University of North Carolina (something that never sat well with him as a Duke fan). In addition to his love for medicine David was also an avid sports fan, in particular following the St. Louis Cardinals and Duke University Blue Devils. He also enjoyed annual ski trips to Vail, CO where he went almost every year since it opened in 1962, even after his diagnosis of Alzheimer's. Above all else David loved his family and despite his busy work schedule he never missed an event in his children's lives, including soccer games and swim meets all over the country. Later, he was a constant source of joy and love to his grandchildren Connor and Henry. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to all of those that provided support in David's final years while battling his disease. In particular: David's caretaker Becky Bosch, his doctor Steve Putman, Rev. Deb Blackwood PhD for her spiritual guidance, Kathy Reardon for her constant friendship to David, Celeste Renaldo for her guidance and friendship to Ann, Linda McGrew, counselor extraordinaire, the Embrace group, clergy and entire congregation of Holy Comforter church and all of Ann's colleagues at CMC Levine Children's Hospital for the support they provided during these difficult years. David is survived by his wife of 37 years Ann, his parents Joan and Huddler Moore, his children Bobby, Chris and Katie, Chris' wife Cathy, Duane Church, his grandsons Connor and Henry, his sister Melinda Tesar and husband Randy, nephews and niece Jeremy, Trevor and Lindsay Tesar. A celebration of David's life will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday September 6, 2013 at The Church of the Holy Comforter, 2701 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28209. Interment will follow in the Memorial Garden followed by a reception in Henry Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of David Moore to Levine Children's Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association of NC, Charlotte Chapter. T.H. We met Dr. Moore the day our daughter was born at Presbyterian Hospital (13 September 1996). A chance encounter perhaps, but we immediately realized his quality as a physician and human being, and he became our three children's pediatrician until his retirement in 2009. RIP Dr. Moore, we'll always remember your smile, your patience, your advice and even your quirky fashion style for ties.

Ann--My heart goes out to you and Bobby, Chris, and Katie. You and your family were such an important part of my life. David was both my sons' doctor for years. It seems like just yesterday you and I were heading to the OM World Finals. Of course, I taught all three of your very gifted kids. Both of you always supported them in every way possible. It has been awhile since I have talked to you, but know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Gloria Jones

Words could not explain the sadness I felt when I read of David's passing. In my 20 years as a colleague at CMC, I always felt him to be one of the best and brightest pediatricians I had the pleasure of knowing. The empathy he manifested showed him to truly have ,"the right stuff." Our community has lost a great soul. My heart goes out to you his dear family.

I am so saddened to hear of Dr. Moore's passing. I had known Dr Moore, as I had been switchboard operator after hours for The Nalle Clinic. He was always a consummate professional, an I know he was beloved by his practice. I hope the family finds comfort in knowing others share their sorrow.

ANNE AND FAMILY, I am saddened to hear about the passing of Dr.Moore. He was a fantastic person and I have missed him a great deal in the years since he left University Pediatrics. He was a brilliant man and a fantastic doctor. He was very dedicated to his family. He told me repeatedly that you were the love of his life. I know he will be missed but his memories will never fade away and he will always be with you in your heart.
