A few years ago I was researching for a Thesis paper for my english class and came across a few of Davids articles. I loved what I found and I called his office to see of he could offer me any more input. I got his answering machine and on it was his cell phone number. When I called it, he answered, and he listened! David not only answered my questions, he asked for my email and sent me some of the greatest information a NASCAR fan could ever want! Thank you David, for giving me the time of day, even though you were in a room with Richard Childress, you made me feel important. Our brief conversation has lived on with me and will continue to to remain as one fo the most incredible moments of my life.

First of all I want to say how sorry I am for your loss, secondly I am so sorry this is so late.
I was lucky enough for David to do a story on me that was posted in the Observer in early Oct. of 2008.
I have a scrap book on Dale Earnhardt that I wanted him to tkae a look at but as it turned out he wanted to do a story on Dale going into Talladega where Dale made the million dollar run for his last win in NASCAR. The story he did came at a very good time in my life as I had just been blind sided at work with a lay off.
I have several copies of the story here and I am proud to say I was lucky enough to meet David and honered to have a story written by him.

David will be missed so very much. I loved his view on NASCAR because he told it the way he felt and took no sides. I read a lot of great stuff David wrote. He was the best writer about NASCAR and that is a fact!!! He wil be missed but I will always remember David Poole. He would have been on my want to meet me list. I have only followed NASCAR a short time but I can honestly say I have alot more Knowledge due to David on The Morning Drive. He simply told how it was. It is just not the same without him. He will be missed.

It is with a heavy heart that I offer my condolences to the family of David Poole. I have been a lifelong racing enthusiast ever since I met my Uncle Buck Brigance. Even though I know very few, everyone in our sport feels like family to me. Mr. Poole was an outstanding motorsports journalist and ambassador. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends at this very difficult time. God Bless.

My thoughts and prayes go out to his family on their lose. Every morning i enjoyed listining to david and mike bagley.
David gave his unbiased opinion no matter what people thought. His sense of humor made me laugh. When i turned on the radio I couldn't believe he wasnt with us anymore on that very sad afternoon i kept telling myself that i listined to him that very morning. It was a pleasure to know him. David Poole told the truth about NASCAR racing. We have lost the voice of reason and the only person who had the guts to express his unbiased opinion. I will hate to delete his email address from my list of friends. He always listened to what I sent.
So often his sense of humor would just make you fall out of your chair laughing when you read what he wrote.
I had the honor of sitting beside him on a plane back from Califonia. Exhausted as we all were he fell asleep and snored away :-)
At the first charity event to raise money at the now annual event at the Legend Racing Legends, he was a great presence. Now, he is a legend.
He complimented my donation of handpainted glassware--which was the only non racing related item there. I always hoped he was the one that ended up with it as noone else even noticed.
He cared about the little things and the little men and women in racing e.g. the crews. It was a pleasure to know him.

David did a great job following in Tom Higgin's footsteps covering NASCAR.Tom was so pro Dale Sr., Poole was less biased, I really enjoyed reading his columns and views in The Charlotte Observer. God Rest his Soul.

I am from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.
I never met David but we did e mail a few times.
My daughter lives in Mooresville and every time we visited I had to have the Charlotte Observer to read David's input.
I totally enjoyed when Tradin' Paint was on and David would appear with Petty.
We must know that David is HOME and we will all meet in Heaven.

I just returned from an out-of-the-country trip and was saddened to learn of David's passing. I had met David a variety of times in the Media Center at NHMS over the years and also listened to him every weekday on "The Morning Drive". The racing world has certainly lost one of its finest. My sincerest condolences to his wife and family. He will be greatly missed by many!

To the Poole family - may God bless you & keep you close as you begin to heal from your deep loss. To the TMD family - I honestly don't know how you are able to carry on without Daivid's powerful presence, but motor on you do & we are forever greatful for the work that you do & the memories you share with us about David. To the Nascar community - there will never be another individual that had the passion about the sport & the conviction to stand his ground for what he believed in. I for one am grateful I have gotten to know him through his efforts on Sirius Speedway these past 3 years.

I never met David personally, but spoke to him on the radio once, said hello from a distance while he was covering the Wachovia last year and sent him an email to which he promptly responded. I wish I had got to meet him, I admired his "to the point" nature and brutal honesty. I 'm sorry for your loss, but I'm sure David has one of the best seats in the house now, not just for the next race, but for his family. God bless the family and thank you David for your work.

I am deeply saddened by Davids death. As a long time reader of 'Thatsracin.com' and meeting him in various media centers around the tracks, I became a big fan of his opinions and thoughts. Although I didn't always agree, I knew that in his heart he stood behind everything that he said.

I was saddened to hear about David. He was my Monday morning start of the week on the Radio (driving to work). I always love his comments, rants and jolly personality. I can still hear him saying “Marty- Marty- Marty“ about something Marty Snider said (LOL). I will truly miss his him and the Sirius radio show will never be the same.

I was honored to have met David and talked to him in the garage area a few times. I enjoyed not only his great since of humor in person and on the radio but also his seriousness in covering what he considered to be HIS sport, NASCAR. David was well versed in many other sports as well but took his job as a NASCAR commentator very seriously. He will be sorely missed and the racetrack won't be the same without him. I listened to David every day on Sirius. It just happened this week I was unable to listen on Monday and Tuesday. I regret that I didn't get to listen to his last two shows. I was in utter shock when I tuned in on thursday and heard Bagman talking about what happened. David will be sadly missed by all.

This week has seemed all too surreal...On April 24th, I lost my Dad in much the same way that David passed. He was laid to rest yesterday.
I can take some comfort in knowing that my Dad is in a much better place than any of us and he's in some pretty good company. I'm sure he and David have shared quite a few stories already!

David's column was always the first thing I turned to when I picked my morning paper. That paper was the Daily Tar Heel, not the Charlotte Observer. His column, even then entitled "Life in the Turn Lane", was funny, irreverent, and extremely well-written---just as his columns in the Charlotte Observer and on That's Racin' would be. My condolences to Mr. Poole's family and friends.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the Poole family. Mr. Poole and Bagman were my co-pilots every morning driving to work. I could not wait to turn my car on to hear what he had stirred up. I used to do a sports radio show in Bismarck, ND. I needed a NASCAR expert and came across the name David Poole. I e-mailed him and he gladly helped me out that week of Daytona in 2002. That one-week deal turned into a weekly thing with David for about 4 years. He never asked for anything in the form of payment and was always available. I plugged his books and he didn't even want me to do that. He was great at what he did and I am thankful that he helped me out. I never met him personally, but I just know that he was a great man. He will be missed.

I didn't know David well but when I did run into him the past 7 years I knew he was impassioned with the sport of racing. He was always especially loud in the media center at LMS when big things happened and it was easy to catch his energy! Our last interaction was at the new z-max dragway when it opened last fall. David was on top of racing, PERIOD. He'll be missed.

I,m from canada, and have not had a reason to call into the morning drive to talk to Baggly and Poole but I sure wish i did! My best memory of David Poole is the day he had to fly out to telladega, to cover the race, and on the show he had mentioned that it was Eli's birthday, before the show was ending, He said over the air "PA PA can't be there, he has to go to telladamdega but I'll see you when PA PA returns" I do believe this was in October last year, To Katie Poole I listened to you talk to the Mike today on Sirius Radio thanks for sharing your memories and some history of Poole that we didn't know. The mornin drive drew me back to Nascar. I moved out of God's country many years ago. I could relate to his stories and the way he conveyed his views were soemtimes different but always informed. I share his dislike for man feet,so he will flash through my mind each time. RIP!

I host an independent sports talk show in the NY area and David was on my show. I am saddened that I cannot get the chance to have him on again. He will always in my opinion be the voice of all Nascar writers. My heartfelt sympathy to the Poole family.

Thank you David for bringing the serious issue of Manfeet to light, I'll never look at men in flip flops the same again.
