David Wright Obituary

Mr. Wright, 63, of Cornelius, NC died September 8, 2016

Mr. Wright was born on March 3, 1953 in Houston, Texas, to the late Ernest Bicknell Wright and to Ann Graburn Wright. He was the oldest of Ann Wright's three sons and one of her and Don Jones six combined offspring. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia, Ann (mother) and Donald Jones (stepfather) of Charlotte, and brothers, William L. Wright, ( Beth), Gary Jones, (Mary Lynn), sisters, Donna Dean and Becky Parmer, (Curt), Aunt Charlotte Osgood, Uncle William Graburn (Joan), Uncle Lynne Graburn, nieces and nephews, Angela Bush, Zach Wright, Alex Wright, Bryan Wright, Anna Marie Wright, Dylan Wright, Loren Fitchett, Josh Jones, Hunter Parmer, Landon Parmer and a host of wonderful relatives, friends and his dog Sabai Dee. He was preceded in death by another brother, Jeffrey G. Wright, (Joanne.)

Mr. Wright grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Charlotte Country Day School in 1971. He received his bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Trained as a location analyst with degrees in Economic Geography, he worked for several large master-planned community developments, including North Harbor at Davidson, University Place, Highland Creek, and Lakeshore at Tega Cay, concluding his career at Newland Communities of La Jolla, California as the Carolinas division president at the time of his retirement.

David was a strong believer in conservation, a mentor in the love of nature and pursued a variety of outdoor activities including hosting the annual Audubon Lake Norman Winter Count Talley. He never let health issues stop him from enjoying our National Parks and remote areas of natural beauty.

Mr. Wright's family offers sincere appreciation to the doctors and medical professionals, especially Dr. Ben Hippen and Dr. Scott Lindblohm whose tireless efforts helped to extend and improve David's life. Thanks also, for the wide network of prayers given for his recoveries. David had received his first of two transplanted kidneys in the year 2000, another in 2006. David tried to put medical staff at ease with his wit.

A celebration of his life is planned on Oct. 22, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 5: 00 PM at his home in Cornelius, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to The Catawba Lands Conservancy, 105 W. Morehead Street, Suite B, Charlotte, NC, 28202.

Marcia, This is Carl Ganser and I am stunned to learn of David's passing last September, and embarrassed at how late I learned. I've been injured, in recovery at White Oak, then months of physical therapy trying to regain sense of balance. Just a couple days ago I saw a reference in an Audubon site to a memorial for David. It was well over a year ago I last saw David and you at an Audubon meeting and he seemed to be doing better. To read that news was like a shot You and David had been so kind to me and others, you (lavishly) hosting the tally party for the Lake Bird Count and David for, among other things for many invitations to tour the lake with him. Your generosity will never be forgotten. Now you are burdened with a cross of grief and loneliness beyond the reach of words. I hope your family and close friends have been supporting you as you make your way through these memory filled days. I'm very sorry about this and that I probably will be unable to see you again since I am essentially house bound, I can not walk well enough even with a cane nor drive. Carl Ganser

Marcia: Every time I worry about what subspecies of bird I am looking at or for I will think of David and smile. He is, of course, singly responsible for that obsession. From minus 10 in Nebraska looking for Common Crane to the very windy and cold bluffs of St. Paul the memories are deep. He will be missed.

Dear Marcia, i am so sorry for your tremendous loss
I considered David a very special friend from high school. . I loved taking to David now and then and hearing about your shared love of Alaska. I know you were by his side every step of his health journey . What a special spouse and role model you are...as was he ..
My heart is aching to speak to him to tell him goodbye . I do hope you are at at peace .
We will miss him dearly at our upcoming reunion.
I know there will be stories and many smiles as we remember him . Take care and I wish you the best . Dorsey Tillett Northrup..

Marcia I'm so sorry . David was the proverbial cat with nine lives. He was a fighter and you were his champion. What a hoot he was! That dry, droll wit ! He is making them laugh upstairs ! All is well in heaven tonight . Love , Bonnie stone

We shall miss our neighbor of so many years and remember him as a friend who shared his humor and intelligence freely. David's resilience was monumental and admirable.
