Deborah McKeithan Obituary

Deborah Crouch McKeithan
ASHEVILLE -- Ms. McKeithan, died Friday, August 15, 2003 in Asheville, NC after a long illness. Deborah was a member of the Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.
Ms. McKeithan was born December 6, 1953 in Shelbyville, Kentucky. From the beginning of her life she demonstrated remarkable creativity and courage. Known across the United States as a leading advocate for disability reform, Deborah was appointed by President Reagan to the National Council on Disability. For her service to mankind, Deborah was inducted into the North Carolina Woman's Hall of Fame and received the following awards: 1983 W. Clement Stone Foundation Award Winner; 1986, Outstanding Young Woman of America; 1990 Gleitsman Foundation Award Winner; 1991 National Jaycees 10 Outstanding Young American Award; and the 1992 Junior Chamber International Most Outstanding Young Person in the World.
Professionally, Deborah dedicated much of her career to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Her greatest passion was the founding of Learning How, Inc. a national organization for women and men with disabilities. Because of her efforts she made guest appearances on Hour Magazine, the Sally-Jesse Raphael Show, and Good Morning America.
She is survived by her parents, Henry and Jan Crouch of Asheville, NC; siblings, Tom Crouch and his wife Ellen, of Asheville, NC, Sarah Crouch Tucker and her husband Keithen, of Macon, GA, Rebecca Crouch Hobbs and her husband Victor, of Milledgeville, GA, and Bill Crouch and his wife Jan, of Georgetown, KY, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial service was held in the Perry Crouch Chapel at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Bill Crouch and Dr. Guy Sales officiating. Interment will be held at Green Hills Cemetery.

Dear Henry, Jan, and family,

Tom and I were saddened to hear of Debbie's passing. May the love of friends give you comfort and the love of God give you peace. Debbie was a very accomplished young woman who overcame many difficulties to be the best she could be for Him.
