Derek Hartman Obituary
Mr. Hartman, 25, of Wake Forest, NC and formerly of Charlotte, NC died December 12, 2005 at Duke University Medical Center. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 4 PM Saturday, December 17, at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Millbrook Rd in Raleigh. Derek was born September 9, 1980 in Michigan and was the son of Tim and Jan Hartman. He graduated from Providence High School, Charlotte, NC in 1998, and UNC Chapel Hill in 2002. Derek was employed with Progress Energy and was a long time crewmember with the Rocky Horror Picture Show in Raleigh.
On June 24, 2002 he was married to the love of his life, Katharine Ruth Hartman.
Survivors include his wife Kassi; his parents, Tim and Jan Hartman of Charlotte; his brother, Justin, currently in the Marines deployed in Iraq; his grandparents Betty and Bob Hartman, Aquashicola, PA; and his in-laws Dr. Jerry and Darlene Pittman of Wake Forrest, NC.
Derek was a selfless man who wanted everyone around him to be positive and happy. He fought many health battles with grace and courage and never gave up. The family wishes to acknowledge the medical staff on 9100 at Duke University Medical Center for the love, care and attention Derek received during his extended stays. We also acknowledge the personal care given to Derek from his father in law Dr. Jerry Pittman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation. Please join the family in honoring Derek with your thoughts and fond memories on Saturday.
