Donald Allan Chichester
WIRTZ, VA -- Mr. Chichester, 76, of Wirtz, VA, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010. He was born on June 20, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anita; three daughters, Cathee Chichester of Ewing, NJ, Laurie Chichester of Scotch Plains, NJ and Linda Dutcher and her husband Richard of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Natasha and Evan; step-grandchildren, Jessica, Kylie and Cody.
He was a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY, first sailing as a marine engineer and then becoming a mechanical engineer. His love for the water brought him to Smith Mountain Lake after his retirement.
A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2010 at Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church with Rev. Burton White officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 63, Wirtz, VA 24184 or USMMA, 300 Steamboat Rd., Kings Point, NY 11024 (www.usmmaaf.com).
The family would like to thank the staff of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion.

So sorry to hear of Don's death. I worked with him at Hazeltine Electronics in 1958 through 1960 and he was the most helpful and knowledgeable engineer I ever met.

My name is Patricia Mantovi nee Southwick. My mom and Donald's mom were first cousins. My mom was Gertrude Southwick (nee Bleckwehl) and Donald's mom was Mabel Chichester nee Desch. I have a geneology booklet from 1964 that my cousin David Atwell put together where I was able to verify this information. My deepest sympathy to all of you. Fondly, Pat
