Donald Ross Obituary

Donald Eugene Ross CHARLOTTE - On April 29, 2014, Don passed away peacefully, late in the evening at the Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville. Don was just one day shy of his 98th birthday, born in Syracuse, New York in 1916. He and his brother Wallace were the sons of Wallace J. and Edna W. Ross, who moved from Larchemont, New York to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1924 and back again 15 years later. He completed high school in Larchemont and then earned his Bachelor of Science Degree at Yale University in 1939. Don met the love of his life, Calla Owen at a church dance and married her in 1942. With the outbreak of World War II, he had volunteered as a private in the US Army in 1941 and eventually served as a Captain in the Signal Corps in the Japanese Campaign until 1946. Don worked for many years in the corporate world and raised two daughters, Jeannie and Sandy and two sons, Don and Bill. He and his beloved wife retired to Charlotte where he lived until his death on Tuesday. There will be a memorial service at 2PM on Saturday, May 3, in the reception room at The Cypress Club in Charlotte. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinafuneral.com. I was so sorry to hear of Mr. Ross' passing. He was really a great guy. I know several times I went to him for advice, financial, real estate, etc., and he was always happy to help.He was a very intelligent and knowledgeable man. Had it not been for us boys,(Donnie, Billy, Joey and me)he probably would have lived to be 100. My condolences to the family.

I just learned of Mr. Ross' passing and express my deepest condolences to his family, especially my best and oldest friend Bill. Your dad was as good and honorable man as I have ever known. Peace be with all of you at this time.
