Earlene Drum Obituary

Mrs. Earlene Sigmon Drum, age 97, of Catawba, NC, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Catawba Regional Hospice in Sherrills Ford, NC. Born November 28, 1919, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Early Alexander Sigmon and Lola Rena Gabriel Sigmon.

Earlene was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and was a current member of Center United Methodist Church in Catawba, NC. Earlene was a homemaker and was known as an expert seamstress. As the wife of a "Career Navy Man", she and her daughter Carol enjoyed traveling and seeing many beautiful places around the country. Earlene was a loving wife, mother and dedicated friend to all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Hayes Edward Drum; sisters, Virginia Sigmon, Frances S. Abernethy and Betty S. Sherrill; and brother, Eugene "Bud" Sigmon.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Ann Drum of Catawba, NC; sister-in-law, Glenna D. Sherrill of Newton, NC; brothers-in-law, Max Sherrill of Catawba, NC, and Tony Drum and wife Karen of Stanley, NC; numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Center United Methodist Church with Rev. John Love officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:45 PM on Saturday.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Eric Sherrill, Ronnie Abernethy, Dexter Warren, Wayne Williamson, Gary York and Kenny Monroe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: Center United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 4945 Sherrills Ford Rd., Catawba, NC, 28609 or Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC, 28658.

The Drum family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Conover, NC.

Carol, I was so sorry to hear about your mother's passing . I didn't know her well back in high school, but I do remember that she had a soft voice and was always nice to me. You always seemed to be able to get the car when the rest of our gang couldn't.
So sorry I missed you at the last West luncheon. Hope to see you there next time I'm up. We are in Colorado visiting our son & his family or I would have been at the funeral today. Please know that I'm thinking of you as you go through this sad time .

The Trustees of the Drum-Wilkinson Clan are saddened by the new of Earlene's passing. She was one of these ladies that to know her you loved her. We loved her not only for her personality, her loving ways, but also because she is one of our extended family. We know there must be rejoicing in Heaven that this child has come home. We pray for Carol and other close family members. We know, they, too, are hurting.
