Edith Grier Obituary

Edith Bigger Harper Grier "GG", 84, of Charlotte, NC, passed away early Thursday morning at Carolinas Medical Center - Mercy.

GG (Gorgeous Grandma) was born in York County, SC, one of eight children, to the late Paul Campbell Harper and Mary Roberta Harper and was a 1950 graduate of Clover High School. Mrs. Grier worked as a receptionist and switchboard operator for twenty years with Duff-Norton Manufacturing Co. She was a long time member of Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, where she taught church kindergarten and sang in the choir and her family was one of the original founding families in 1793. GG felt her greatest achievements in life were being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Her greatest joy were her 3 boys Ralph, Robert and Roy and her three grandchildren Katherine, Caroline and Alexandra. GG spent many idyllic days helping with the family dairy farm and memorable evenings listening to beautiful music and spending time with family and friends. GG will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her kind spirit and her incredible dedication to family.

The family will greet friends Sunday, the 26th of March 2017 from 1:45 PM until 2:45 PM in the Family Life Center at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 3:00 PM in the Sanctuary with The Reverend Luke Maybry, Senior Minister, officiating. Burial will be in the Grier Family plot at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her three sons: Ralph S. Grier, Robert Grier and Roy Grier and his wife, Debby; three grandchildren: Katherine, Caroline and Alexandra; one brother, Reginald Harper. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Grier, Jr. three sisters: Dot, Margaret and Lois; three brothers: Kenneth, Ike and Cliff.

Memorials may be made in remembrance of Mrs. Grier to her church, Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 9401 S. Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28273 or to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Rd., Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
