I am so very sorry for your loss. Ed was a wonderful man. He was my CEO and friend at First Union starting in 1989 until he left. My finest memory was working on a merger over a weekend and he came in to work with raggedy jeans, fishing vest and fishing hat with lures. Always a smile on his face and a cheery hello. He will be missed!

Ed provided me an opportunity to be a part of the growth of First Union after the acquisition of First Railroad and Banking company in 1986 and encouraged me in additional opportunities across the franchise and for that I am and will remain grateful. God bless you Ed for all you have accomplished for so many and what your support brought to them.

Eddie as we all knew him in elementary school blasted on to the scene at Eastover School in a big way. We were in Mrs. Deals 5 th grade class together. I remember one time at show and tell , Eddie stood strongly in front of the green chalk board and told us all about the car wreck he was in over Thanksgiving on his way to Albermarle where his grandparents lived. Eddie looked rather like a pirate with a deep gash across his cheek. We were mesmerized by his bravery. Eddie brought me my first box of Valentine candy after selling soda bottles to buy it at Park Place Pharmacy. He rode his bicycle over to Biltmore Drive to deliver it. Our entire class was sad when Eddie moved to Albermarle but many remained friends at Davidson and the bank and beyond. Sending sympathy, love and prayers to all the family.
