Edward Dennis "Dutch" Klintworth
May 28, 1931 - January 9, 2025
Greenville, South Carolina - Edward Dennis "Dutch" Klintworth, 93, devoted husband of loving wife, Sarah "Sally" Reagan Klintworth, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
Born on May 28, 1931, in St. Stephen, SC, he was the youngest child of the late Mayor, Otto Fred and Pearl Anne Cummings Klintworth.
Dutch attended school in St. Stephen. He completed his freshman year at Furman University, before enlisting in the US Navy. First stationed at Whidbey Island, WA and then serving aboard the USS Ulvert M. Moore destroyer escort during the Korean War.
After his service, he graduated from Furman in 1957. He immediately started his 29-year tenure at Liberty Life Insurance Company in Greenville, SC, primarily as manager of personnel and human resources. In 1989, they moved to Charlotte, NC, where he was employed as business administrator for Myers Park United Methodist Church for seven years. Dutch served briefly as interim property manager for Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, where he was then a member.
During his time at Furman, Dutch would often drive the ladies from the Furman women's campus to Northgate Baptist Church and that is how he met Sally. After courting for a while, they married in September of 1958, creating a long and fruitful life together.
A lifelong Baptist, Dutch has been a member of numerous churches, including Taylors First Baptist in SC, where he served as a Bible teacher and deacon. He was also a Bible teacher at Myers Park Methodist, Pritchard Memorial Baptist, and Providence Baptist in Charlotte. While teaching, he studied with the dedication of a full-time minister and taught with such passion that people used to tell him that he was on the wrong side of the pulpit. At Providence, he also served as deacon, church moderator, Personnel Committee member, Disciple facilitator, and member of a Carelink Team. He was a member of the Agape Sunday school class.
His legacy of love and faith will continue on with his loving wife of 66 years, Sally, formerly of West Asheville, NC; two sons, Edward Michael "Mike," of Charlotte, NC, and Steven Andrew "Steve" and wife, Colleen, of Canandaigua, NY; four grandchildren, Sam Klintworth (Erika), of Scottsville, NY, Ben Klintworth, of Canandaigua, NY, Kristy Mason (Lee), of Inman, SC, and Cayce Harvley, of Greer, SC; eight great-grandchildren, Destiny Mason, Hannah Ramsey (Noah), Hunter Mason (Whitney), Miley and Serenity Mason, Shianne Watts (Cameron), Chedan Crawford (Chris), and Sarah Harvley; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; four nephews, Fred Klintworth (Chantile), of Summerville, SC, John Klintworth (Jackie McGee), of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jim Haines and Joey Haines both, of Staunton VA; former daughter-in-law, Lorrain K. Piche, of Greer, SC; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dutch was preceded in death by his oldest son, James Daniel "Dan" Klintworth; great-grandson, Tony Neal; and siblings, Ruby Klintworth Henson Preacher and Otto Fred Klintworth, Jr.
More than anything, Dutch loved his God and his family. While we grieve his loss, we rejoice in knowing he is in Heaven and reunited with his loved ones and with God the Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ.
Michah 6:8
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord requires of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.
